Howdy Andy; I have a couple of projects in my head, none right now in the physical works; as usual, the holidays have sneaked up like a mugger from a dark alley, so fun-project time exponentially drops day by day. I have an issue with my
eyebolt tuners, and would love to spend on "normal" tuners if I could get them to wrap these massive weedwackers. I'm thinking about an open head (like your duo-dulce), and maybe "patching on" a thru-rod to standard tuners to replicate
the way-too-expensive standard Bass (3/4, 4/4) tuners. Hence my query- I thought I saw rods extending through the cutout on your fine work.
Other "mind" projects: a wood bowl resonator baritone Uke (or maybe just tuned/rigged like a standard CB guitar), and a CB short scale 3-string Bass; but on this latter, I'm thinking about a body a bit bigger than a standard CB- I want to fret it up and use an old Danelectro lipstick pickup I scored; I'm thinking I'd like a bit more resonance room than a standard
CG would provide. Any thoughts? Thanks, Brian
Hey Andy I just use a compass to draw the center ring and drill right on the line and then I usually eyeball the rest.
I never really make a pattern I just kinda do whatever feels right.
Hey Andy, I almost used my fret saw to cut those "fret" inlay slots, but also thought they'd be too thin. So I went with a typical wood saw I had lying around... Not sure how wide it was, well... it's as wide as the inlays, right? :-) Needless to say, it was probably 3 times wider than the fret saw would have been.
Then I took a scrap piece of walnut from my previous CBG and began sanding... lemme tell you, it was tedious getting the wood that thin. Just sanded sanded sanded, tried to put the wood in the slot, and sanded some more until it fit. I did the entire neck once... then tried to cut and/or sand the pieces sticking out, and because the walnut strips were so thin, a few of them broke. I eventually had to do three days worth of sanding strips, glueing them & sanding them flat before I had 'em all in.
I would have loved to be able to use some stock slices of wood that matched a saw I had perfectly, but ya do what ya can with what you have, right? Keep on doing what you do Andy, you do it very well!
That's basically how I did mine to, minus the files, but that was before I bought the cutting kit attachment. Which attachment are you using? I wondered if the multisaw attachment would work better, but haven't used either yet.
Hi mate - Im pleased you can make use of the headstock idea. It only took like 5 mins with a round file - if you dont have one get a coarse one. Should only be a few bucks. And post some pics when you're done!
Take it easy

Hey i love that bari uke.
I just scored a gran puro box yesterday at a cigar store ;)
Thank you Andy, to you and your wife for coming to see me. I really enjoyed talking to you and hearing about your new business. I wish you all the best of luck. Seems to me with a combination like that, how can it possible fail. LOL Please stay in touch. You built a real nice baritone uke there. I know the Nation will benefit from your design skills. Enjoy.
thanks andy fer the comment on the big cuesta rey reso video.i like the sound of it acoustic and it gets better plugged in cause of the ted crocker tesla piezo under the mason jar lid plate that the biscuit rest on.
Thanks for the comments. Today is sunday - so Im going to make a GBG (as opposed CBU) So I'll see how that goes. I will check out your stuff - sounds great!
Cheers - Gus
