I do :o)

If you are looking to buy a cbg, I am based in the UK and always have a dozen or more finished guitars in stock and for sale. I usually have a few other interesting odditities too! Drop me a line to discuss your requirements, or check out my website at www.randyroosterscigarboxguitars.com

I used pallet wood for my first build, darned if it wasn't mahogany, nice piece too, even has nail hole in the neck. I also found a piece of maple from another pallet. That's gonna be my next neck.

For everyone who gets excited by rare timbers, turned on by a good burr, or maybe you just have a technical query about working something new? Feel free to show off your 'non-guitar' wood projects too!

Post show blues

Long time since I did a blog.

The Birmingham show was an absolute blast! Met some really great folk, took home some great ideas and knowledge and enjoyed every second of it - a huge thank you to Chickenbone John and his team for organising everything - Im already looking forward to next years!!
I took 18 cbgs and diddly bows down eventually I think, and it was fantastic to see everyone playing them and enjoying them - thats what its all about right?

Since the show though Iv been in a bit of a… Continue

Builds and errors

So, build #1 is done, bar some annoying little sound issues, and Im well into build #2. But what do you do with all these guitars??? The 'studio' is now overflowing (its a VERY small room!).
Iv learnt a lot about guitar building that Id never have learnt building electrics, which is really great... though theres stilla lot to learn. And I cant really play slide yet either, but its coming.
Anyhoo, the laquer should be nearly dry now so Im gonna bolt up #2 just to see how it all looks before I add… Continue

Randy Roosters (or not)

Hey guys, this group is addictive... so many good people around :o)
Anyways, I guess I should point out my real name is Ben Moor.... not Randy Rooster!
I was just trying to think up a cool name that had that CBG 'sound' to it... y'know like 'Red dog guitars', or 'Chicken Bone John' or Hollowbelly'... something bluesy....
I was really struggling until my rooster came past the window, jumped on 4 of his hens in quick succession, gave a nonchalant nod, and strolled on by.... so Randy Rooster Guitar… Continue

Just discovered CBGs!

Wow!
Well Iv just discovered this whole CBG scene, got me a 3 string, and am now concentrating on building more CBGs and less solids!!
Great to see so many people building and sharing tips and advice... much less elitist than the 'electric' world... I feel right at home!!

Hi Roosterman,
The passive preamp arrived today and sounds really good (the tone actually works) I have posted a few pictures of the insides on the wiring group.

Thanks for the feedback on my VIKster bass. The woodburning did take some time to do; maybe it's time to upgrade my $15 iron to something with more power! I am not nearly as prolific as your are; you have built some very cool instruments, licenses plates and wood slabs and all. I love to see the variety.

Thanks Ben. If I could only keep one accessory/pedal it would be the Akai. Second would be the Line 6 Backtrack which plugs between guitar/amp or pdeal amp and just records everything you play and saves each piece as a WAV file. That's how I captured that piece of music/buffoonery. Save your pennies and get one.
