Rod Piezo Hacking

Started this discussion. Last reply by Randy S. Bretz May 11. 2 Replies

I thought this may be helpful to anyone who is tempted to hack those rod piezos. As an experiment I successfully cut one of the piezo elements off of a 6 string one and wired it to a jack so I now…Continue

Piezo for Uke Bass

Started this discussion. Last reply by jawbone May 9. 14 Replies

My Uke bass project is almost done. I made the bridge with a coax piezo under the brass rod saddle but the output is almost not there at all. I tried a preamp and it was not really any better. I…Continue

Zero Fret?

Started this discussion. Last reply by Mark Apr 20. 9 Replies

I've become a fan of the zero fret but now I'm looking for a better way. I usually use a brass rod set into a slot but cutting the slot and getting it at the right size and depth is a pain. I got…Continue

Made some brass mounts for the slide whistle. Needs some antiquing now, thinking a coat of amber shellac may do the trick?

Short improvisational piece inspired by the storm while waiting. I was hoping to go on a bit and maybe catch some thunder, then she got home. Tuned DAD on cigar box guitar "Black & Tan".

I guess as far as addictions go this is not a bad one to have. I had surgery yesterday morning and was in the cellar laying out out a rat rod build last night. Now I'm up early and since I'm off work, guess what I'm anxious to get back to??  I don't have much in the way of power tools so not too concerned about being doped up a bit, feeling creative somehow.

Thanks for your comments. Yes it is all cut by hand, must be getting better, I only snapped two piercing saw blades on the tailpiece as opposed to about ten on the sound hole

Bruce,  I look forward to your new works.  I have been working on mandos and ukes lately, but recently returned to the 3-stringer standard to build one for my cousin and it is very pretty, with clean lines.  I will post pictures of it after she receives it in New York.  It's supposed to be a surprise (what it looks like), so I don't want her stumbling onto any pics before then.  She plays bass, so I strung it uniquely.  More to come!  :)  I'm hoping to do more of the Steampunk work too, since the Steampunk twins have gone off to new homes.

Bluesheart, the lack of a chapter on you and featuring photos of Aja, the Undertaker, Splinter Pig and other examples of your skill and design aesthetic makes David Sutton's book, "Cigar Box Guitars" incomplete.

Hi Bluesheart! Thanks for wishing me welcome to The Nation. I've finished two more gits since then, and I'm keeping on keeping on. I've tried to comment to your builds, but have failed to load it up or something. I'll try again.

The Best to you.

Ha!!!  You should have made up some big story about how you learned that heel detail from a CBG building Tibetan  monk during you travels east while trying to find yourself.  Who knows, I may have bought it ;)

Thanks for the friend request thing. I'm flattered and happy to oblige!
