smilingdog1 said… Hello Ice Bob,
I've reactivated my interest in building guitars, writing and recording. Video recording is still a bit awkward. Soon, I'll up load a song or two, sharing my builds and music interest. Definitely a great site to see an extremely diverse collection of styles here on the Nation.
Harvey Thompson said… Nice Lowebow!! I think Richard's is similar. I noticed yours seems to have both the middle and bottom strings on the 3-string rod go across/above two pickups. On mine (Macanudo) only the middle string crosses TWO pickups. The top & bottom strings only cross one pickup. So the middle RINGS OUT louder than others. I put some elect tape on it at nut to dampen it down.
Harvey Thompson said… Thanks for the insights. (No, not replied to earlier.) I think John is free of the tyranny of having to play in "keys". :-) I asked several times what tunings those strings could handle and he just said, "If you break a string, try a smaller one." I found D & E very "slack" with the strings he sent. Currently up on "G" and no sign of stress on necks. I measured distance to strings & will watch (along with tuner) for bowing. I added fret markers at 3, 5, 7 & 9 for blues, using black elect tape and gold automobile pinstripe mylar. Looks like "cigar bands." (Its been suggested we need a "Lowebow Group".)
Harvey Thompson said… I have several CBGs, including a favorite built by Fuzzy, but I'm really looking forward to delivery next week of a 30" Macanudu from John Lowe. Anticipating the fun & challenge of playing it. Enjoyed your photos. Do let me know if there is any group sharing tips on tunings, etc. Regards!
Hi Ice, Thanks for the friendship. You got some awesome music here.
