Hi, I thought I would bring this discussion from the Guitar For My Grandson thread.

Hi again, I did not want to risk hijacking the original poster post thread.

I just found the back information section, at least I think that’s what you are talking about, took me a while, I had not seen it before, it appears to be listed under another website, so I have never bothered to go there, my bad. Having seen it, I can understand the concerns expressed about losing some or all of it.

The search facility is chock full of info too, I have not used that before either. I tried it with a question and had a choice of over 3000 posts on one subject. I do not have time to sift through all that, so posting a question and getting an up-to-date answer is the way I would go. Also, many other members benefit from the question and the answer/s, not just me, if I had found time to do the research. I would imagine it also keeps that search facility fresh and updated.

My thoughts were that if I bring the matter up again there may be a member with enough computer/web building nous, to help affect the fix. I do not use Facebook, other than my business page to post information, nor any other social media. I’m probably alone there. Old school, hahaha.

I did check the Facebook site and was disappointed, I scrolled back to the start of the year and all I could see was mainly advertising of one form or another. Maybe I did not search the site properly. I could find no builder’s info sharing, as I was expecting to see, as there is on here.

For me, this site, even with its faults, would be more beneficial to up-and-coming builders and players. I was also thinking of the frustrations I experienced back in the day when losing posts. The sad thing is, too often the person whose post was lost does not come back for whatever reason.
Anyway,
Taff

I am with you 100% on all of that Taffy. This is the only social media I do and I break my own rules of security  (China), to do so. Lots of good info and good people.Hard to leave.

I'm in agreement with Southern Ray on this. This site is a wealth of information. This is what I envisioned the Internet to become back in the day, as the descendant of the old bulletin boards that started such repositories.

If not for this site I would not have learned how to build and play my own guitars. It would be a shame for those who follow to not have the wealth of knowledge and camaraderie found here.

I also do not do the social media thing. no use for them. As you noted, storing information for easy retrieval is not their thing. If I knew how to make this site more usable I would volunteer to do so; alas I am not savvy enough for that task.

Peace.

Bill

Taffy, at the bottom of the main page, on the right side, click on it for issues and report the problem.

Hi Keith, thanks for the heads up on that feature. I rarely scroll down past Groups so I never have seen that. However, I'm sure the powers that be are aware of the problems some members face when posting and may be at a loss in knowing how to fix the problem.

Or, it may be a costly fix. I see other forums using the same provider, [if that's what you call them] work well, but I must admit that they have nowhere the amount of traffic this site has.
