What's the best sounding box in your opinion...I believe Shane says it's the macanudo Hampton court cafe, which I am in the progress of using in a build. My best sounding so far was a partagas Spanish rosado

I like the Macanudo also but have had good sounds from an all wood paper covered Punch box and an all wood varnished Gispert box, the Gispert was the loudest and best sounding for me, same size as the mac porto fino, but better to my ears.

The HUGE Chateau Fuente box with the 1/2 round molding wood pieces on the ends.

The natural wood Punch box with the plastic, puffy, oval sticker on top.

It also depends on what yer lookin for.

Kinda like which is better, Ford or Chevy.

For acoustic, Padron, Don Pepin Garcia, Las Cabrillas and Chateau Real.  And that weird trapezoidal one that is so hard to find.  And maybe Oliva and Ashton if you are building smaller, like 15 or 17".

Yes!! that is the one, and I even have one but was too lazy to go look.

I don't like any plywood I wanna use full wood or minimally plywood cigar boxes.

Plastic sounds awfully and makes wood sound worser. Thinner the plywood better the sound

because then the sound don't escape through many layers of wood.

What is the best sounding box if I don't want to use plywood or wanna use only thin plywood boxes ?

Limited experience here with not a ton of builds, but those all-wood Punch Gran Puro boxes that AFKAM suggested are loud and sound sweet.  And who doesn't love that sticker in the middle of the box?

I hardly ever plug in El Segundo any more.  It might be my playing ability has improved, but I think they get a better tone with a bunch of playing too.  I wasn't so impressed with the box at first, but either my ear is getting tin, or this thing is like pure honey after a few months.

my perfecto garcia is 8 1/2" by 8 5/8", 3" deep, 3/8" side walls, and a very thin ply top. when i first strung it up i couldnt believe my ears. it has a great sound almost banjo in a way. ive got a little collection of boxes now, some are all wood like my perfecto and java boxes and i just got a cohiba and punch all wood. i have some wood with pressboard tops and covered in paper that sound good also like my arturo fuente. but i also have cardboard ascott churchill boxes that i am planing on making a gitty out of just because im interested in how it will sound.
Some of the solid boxes lately are really thick, so not so good for an acoustic build. Like that dark stained one with the really rough finish, the name of which I also cannot recall. So I have used those thinner plywood ones, the thinner the better. In fact, I know a builder who thins them down even more on the inside of the lid by shaving off a layer of the ply. He is a nutter, and his builds sound great. I have learned lots of tricks from him over the years.
My favorite is a nice rectangular punch, but im not sure how they are now because of a recent change in the materials used as dianna said

The trapezoidal one, black with a flip top? I gave one of those away, but i still have another if ya want it.
