guitar bridge/saddle

Nice tip Ben, I use Matts method but if you don't have a tuner handy. Plus its really cool, to me anyway, to get a harmonic to ring out. ( still a guitar novice, like a kid in a toy store simple thin…

Fingers too fat for the 1x2 neck -- anyone else?

Industry standard for at least 100 years, too late to change it now.

Favorite method of wood finishing?

I have been using tung oil finish, just rub it on waith till dry (overnite) buff apply another coat, repeat till you like the finish. It never gets a real gloss finish but its smooth and nice to play…

Does a slide need frets

No frets needed, but the lines marked like you said is a good idea, I know I need them. I have heard some people just play by ear and don't even put markers on the neck, wish my ears were that good.…

I have since removed all the paper on the inside of the lid and I think it does make a difference on the plywood lidded box's acoustically.

I have changed the bridge to a piezo in bridge setup, it sounds awsome and now there is no more giant piezo disc in the lid to effect the unplugged sound. Its a win win. This one is a keeper.

The Gloria Cuban has a new home, the other two are still in my house and have been upgraded with piezos. I have been playing them just to open up the wood so that they have their "voice" when they find a new home. The vega turned out to be a nicer s…

More testing, I put the single piezo in the bridge instead of in the box, it helped with the feedback. The bridge is an oak flat piece with a wood saddle, the sound is not as loud as the macanudo with double bridge piezo, but the bridge on that is t…

OK, if there is no polarity then it shouldn't matter if they are wired parallel or in series?

The wood sandwich around the single piezo did not cut the feedback squeel.

Interesting read, I have no idea how to check the polarity either, would be nice to know, I just made 2 double piezo pickups and they sound good, maybe I got lucky or maybe it doesn't matter with only 2? Anyone know?

Walnut and maple combo is neat, nice job.

The wood sizing has been around for much longer than the chain stores, it is really the size of the wood before it is planed down to a nice finished piece. Don't blame the chain stores they had nothing to do with it, now if someone can tell me why m…

The note will be the same but it will sound less bright (is that the right word) because you don't have a fret for the string to rest on and your finger will dampen the string some, if you have really good calous's on your finger tips it may not be…

Wow, great story, can't add much that has not been said except, go on and build another.

Michael - I did some checking on that "extra" post on the econo jacks - that can be wired as a cutoff switch. You'll notice how when you insert a jack there is a tab that no longer makes contact with the main post of the jack... so you can wire that so that when a jack is inserted, something else (like a speaker) gets cut off. Sort of like how when you insert headphones into a stereo.

Montesino! I was just playing it. I decided to build on the back of this AFuente I'm working on. It's really thin, but I'll just put a couple braces on it if it looks too weak.

Thank you MichaelS for your comment. The reso was built from a large vintage box from S. S. Pierce, an importer of jams and jellies that I found on ebay. It was thicker, but the builder, James Millinchuk cut it down. Richard Sanabia, here on the Nation built the other one. Due to the fact it is a bass, it needs a big box to resonate those deeper tones. But, I agree it does look funny. Enjoy.
