CBGs by nature involve recycling old boxes. Here is a place to share all your ideas about recycling everyday objects into guitar parts. Eye bolt tuners, drain cover soundholes, rusty spanners as bridges, paint can resos... Share creative ideas here.

Move over brand new shiny guitar, Here comes my Cigar Box Guitar!!!

Way back when i was younger I always asked for a guitar, didn't get it. My dad would always
say " Bo Diddley made his guitar with a cigar box and a piece o' wood". And i always looked at
him like as if he were crazy. Meanwhile i had a friend that wanted to leave his guitar at my house.
The neck was broken away from the body, he had no intentions of comin' back for it. what do I do
with a guitar that can't be played? Bo Diddley! Yeah! That's it! I glued and screwed the broken off
neck and bridge to a Hava-Tampa cigar box, thus creating my first guitar and cigar box guitar!
Twenty years later, I discovered "cigar box guitars" group strictly by accident, triggering my long
lost love for all things cigar box. Isn't it funny how life comes full circle sometimes?

Hey Brian, how do you take the long bar out of the rivet? I tried hammering out, but it bends the ferrel thing around the edges. I saw your suggestion on the underground tips. You have some nice builds.

Hello,
I have started a CBN group entitled, "How to Play CBG" It is my hope and intention to encourage the "Wealth of Talent" here on the Nation to share their knowledge and skill to further the CBG movement. Please consider contributing an instructional "video" link to this group. If you are a viewer seeking instruction, please feel free to write. If you have any suggestions or know other players who you think may want to post instructional "video" links, please contact me. Thank you for your interest and support, Keni Lee

Hey BrianQ,

MadMan Lloyd, here. Just to let ya know, I'll be at the Live Oak Music Fest, June 19 - 21, just north of Santa Barbara. I have a booth on the Art Walk. If you can make it, I'll see ya there.

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you. You asked about my lapslide, it's built by Kurt Schoen. Don't have any other good shots of it available but if you check out Kurt's site, schoenguitars. com, he has pictures of some of his lap steels.

Thanks for the compliment...the rusty skeleton keys add to the worn-out look & they sound pretty good to!

Small world! We're celebrating our shop's 10th anniversary this year (2009). How long has your Ink City been around? I'd heard there was one in California somewhere but never could find any info on it. There are also two in Georgia (both unaffiliated with me or each other), and one in Ohio that I know of.

Arroyo Grande is Down South from y'all, and too the West. On the coast 'tween LA & Frisco. It's a hard place to live in, but somewone has to.

I do make it up to the Bay area on occation as my son lives there.
