It’s been a long time but stuff has been made...

About twelve months ago I began clearing a derelict garage in back of our house of decades of festering nastiness, then- during the hottest late summer I can remember- demolishing and hauling away the re-inforced concrete building. In the autumn I paid for a 16’ x 8’ wooden studio to be put up, which I then had lined and insulated before decorating it inside and out. Built a workshop at one end, and furnished the other end for studio purposes. Had to wait until late February for the power to go…See More

I find, to my utter astonishment, that at the age of 60- and with minimal woodworking skills and very few tools- I can build musical instruments that are not only playable, but at their very best are capable of making proper musicians say "wow" in tones of ill-concealed admiration. Like the Stones and their 'Blue and Lonesome' album, it is perhaps a shame that it was done so late in life- but it may not have been possible without having lived that life, y'know?

Cigar Box Nation is my only foray into social media, and I don't miss the others at all. Build 'em loud and build 'em proud!

Well i use a template draw by my self (paper) put sharkcole on the back and draw over that on the place on the Box, and then drill small holes in the inside of the cutout drawing and use a scrollsaw, and cut away sand them down and if you like for special effect paint the rim gold or any other color of disire! Good Luck and Greeeeeettsss zz A.D.

I should share this, because much of it was shared with me- and it has helped me enormously. I've been building these things for less than a year, and I now find that each new instrument I finish plays like a real guitar. For the love of Gitty, some of them may even be saleable... Anyway, here goes.

I was initially shy of showing my builds to my friend S. Not only is she a skilled carpenter and fully qualified boatbuilder, she does not suffer fools gladly either. But she was really…

One day last summer I was driving down the hill to the local market town for bits and pieces. Saw a 'bike down in the middle of the road, so stopped and asked the chap in black leathers if he was OK. When he turned I could see he was my age-ish- late 50s, grey beard, that sort of thing. "Fine" he said, "only had this thing a couple of days", so I drove on. Got to town, parked, and burst out laughing. My wife, I thought, is luckier than she knows. There was a chap who may not have ridden a…
