I was at Lowes the other day looking for brass rods for a bridge or nut, and I ended up in the hinge isle where I found a package of 2 brass hinge pins on sale for 24 cents. They come in 3 1/2" and 4" sizes, and all you have to do is cut off the flat end and then you can cut your own string groves with a file. If you are interested in them, you had better hurry up because they are on close out.

Many of us use the open piece of a pop rivet for string guides on our cbg's. I started using the left over rod piece for two purposes. One - side markers. the material is nice and soft. Second to go through all the string ferrules underneath to prevent the strings from digging into the wood.

After reading all the tips, I wanted to post something new.
I'm experimenting lining sound holes with napkin rings. Sally-Ann sells em usually 4 or 6 for a buck and they can be real silver, brass, stainless or plated. I cut them in half or thirds with a jeweler's saw.

Hey, I can't believe I found some use for the covers of needles. The other morning I was inserting the red cover back on the needle after I had gave Bubba, my dog, an inslin injection when a light came on----I looked at the red cover---and thought this could be used to insert in the string holes to keep the strings from cutting into the wood. You don't know, but that is something for me to think of an idea. All I have to do is drill a hole for the string on one end. I usually throw them away, now I can recycle them. I thought I would share this with yall since yall have shared so many good ideas with me.

Huge bed frame at roadside. Grabbed the side rails, they appear to be 1x6"x7' long solid cherry. I figure I can get 10 to 12 necks out of them easy. The only thing better than cheap is free!
