Can this be done on a 3 string? It's just such a nice song... from the movie Cross Roads 1986

Yep, That one is at the top of the list of songs that I want to learn .
I believe this is played in open D tuning. It is a very free and improvised piece. Low to high DADf#ad. An arrangement could be made on a 3 string, but you would not be able to strum chords that have a fuller sound due to the repeating notes on a six string. Possibly tuned Df#a (135) would offer the best approach. Enjoy.
Hey thanks Keni...
One of my CBG's is tuned with the G replaced with a B at the shop. When I get there today if I dont get too busy I'll try to see how close I can come to that.
I DO like that lazy bluesy sound,,,,,,,,,,,
I went an listened to this about 10 times today...you CANNOT even do this on a 6 string!

its multi tacked big time and if you listen to the middle ....hold the speaker up to your ear...you will hear more than one instrument playing at the same time! ...go put it on the 3:10 to 3:20ish part and you can hear it clearly and lots of chime sounds added at the 2:30 ish mark too! many tracks put toghter...this is not a 6 string song....but it is AWESOME!!!!
Everyone knows that studio music is always multi tracked, but this song can be played on a 6 string and it can sound just like this recording. I've seen Ry Cooder live many times and I don't know how he does it, but he gets more sound out of one guitar then some bands get out of 2 or 3. I imagine it has to do with echos and distortions and other wizz bang stuff, but he does it. Not trying to bust your chops or anything, it's just that I've seen him do it.

For sure he can play it!...Its just that he was asking can it be done on a three string and it would need to be multi tracked sevral times as the orginal was 2 6 string guitars multi tracked together and some parts were spliced and punched in on top, its not linear song just played on one guitar. But it is one of the greatest slide guitar songs I have ever heard!

I know this is a bit of an old thread but I think I need help!! I stumbled across a video of a guy playing feelin bad blues on a 4 string CBG. It sounded good, not quite like the record but good enough to know easily what it was. This is on of my all time favorite pieces of music and was well made up when I came across it but guess what I didn't do? Thats right I forgot to save it or bookmark it and now can't find it again! I don't think it's on YouTube because I would have just saved it to my channel. I know it's out there, I just cant find it again so if anyone has seen it and can point me in the right direction that would be great as I'm going a bit mad looking for it! lol.
This may be the one you were looking for - it's on a 3 string CBG. I've asked him to give us a video of him playing it , so maybe you can spur him on to do that as well. Regards John D

Thanks for that John. It sounds nice but he's not playing 'feelin bad blues' bits of it sound like 'sweet home Chicago'.
So the search continues! Or I could get my build finished and work it out myself or maybe a bit of a community project?
