Cuting out head stocks

Hi Mike, I don't mind how you use the information. Neck angles came from Wikipedia. Here's a photograph of a build which I just finished - put the strings on less than 10 minutes ago. It has a 15deg…

Cuting out head stocks

I have been using 15 deg. But take your pick - here are a few guitar brands and the angles that they use: Guitars 4°: Guild 11°: Martin 12°: Bigsby, Yamaha SGV 13°: Peavey, Warmoth 14°: Gibson Fireb…

I glue with 5 min Araldite and keep an eye on the joint for slippage. Simply clamp lightly. If you search these forums you will find that some people use a couple of dress pins driven into one side o…

Hi Ross, The ugly warning sticker is under the lid which I carefully cut off. I removed and replaced one of the edge trims and used the lid up-side-down, screw fixing it to side rails in the box. This also shows pocket for pickup and extra reinforc…

John, that's a nice looking guitar! But where are the warning stickers?Lol! Would you mind terribly if I knock off your angled head design?

Very nice indeed.

Yup, that's a fine looking headstock alright, I like the contrast between the pieces of wood and the way they all blend together so well.

This group is opened to everyone that builds, plays or just likes the sound of a dulcimer. Both the strum and lap types, it`s all in the fretting.

Nice and clean, John! Looks great!!!!

I really like the style of your headstock here. Very well done!

My first build

Here are some photos of my first build. I am very happy with the results. Looks good and sounds good.

Couldn't find any cigar boxes readily here in Newcastle (Downunder!) so used a Jasart painters box.

Hi John,
As far as I know in pickups ,the more winds/stronger magnets you have, the fatter/louder the sound will be, so the bass pickups will probably work well. Bear in mind that electro-magnetic pickups respond mostly to the string movement, not the resonance of the actual guitar top so as long as your strings are steel you should be right.

Hi John. Mike Ptolomey here. Yeah I did'nt add sound holes as I read in the manual I have that some people think it does'nt make a difference (I thought it would) so as this is my first try, and holes are easier to cut than fill, I would have a go without them first. Sounds ok and I have fitted a piezo pick up too. This guitar I bought as a kit of raw materials so it had all the bits except for the stainless screws I used for the bridge and nut, oh and the ab shell (that came from the beach). I did do all the shaping on the neck as it was timber stock.

Hi John its your friend on the GoldCoast Gary Martin and id be happy to go and get you some boxes from mermaid waters.Have a look at my photos to see what kind of boxes ive been geting there and within reason i could get some for you and send them down .they cost $5 for the labled boxes and $10 for the bare boxes.when i say bare ,unfortunately some have the government warning sticker on them ,but not all .

If you still want boxes, instead of going to Queensland, well, go back to artfire to find the ones you want. If you can let me know which ones you want, I can change it to Australia only for the ones you want. But I have to weigh each box to see what it would cost to ship it...and if you get more than one...the postage has to be calculated which is impossible unless I know what I am shipping and how many. Crazy stuff I know but that is how it is.

email me at
evilmommy@hotmail.com
and give me names, I will put them together and give you details on cost of shipping , etc.

Now that is a good idea to see if someone down around there cansee what they have, isn't it?
These cigar shoppes around here charge money for boxes, Little John. And some charge more than the box can be sold for...it is common place here for that to happen.

But I will send you one or tow or so if you can tell me what you want, or size, etc. Shipping is expensive, as you should have read by now from the links.
