Ouestion on neck

I've been able to manage with them so far but I will have a go at breaking them out and see if it improves. Thanks John D

Hi Ty, Have a look also at the CAD drawings produced by Wes Yates (CBG member) here. You will see on one of these a further recess so that the through the body neck is kept clear of the lid so that i…

Newbie questions reg. tuning for a 4 string

Hi Mungo, You must be holding your guitar up-side-down to have the thinnest string at the top!. Like all guitars the CBG has the thickest string at the top (nearest your head) and the thinnest at the…

Hi Ty, Have a look also at the CAD drawings produced by Wes Yates (CBG member) here. You will see on one of these a further recess so that the through the body neck is kept clear of the lid so that it has the opportunity to resonate. I glue the neck…

Hi Mungo, You must be holding your guitar up-side-down to have the thinnest string at the top!. Like all guitars the CBG has the thickest string at the top and the thinnest at the bottom or closest to the floor. I am also looking for a good 4 string…

Have a look at the Strumstick site. They have a song book you can purchase and you can view them all on line. Most are well known and traditional songs. They are simple melody lines that you can pick out if you have a dulcimer fret layout and many i…

A very nice build. What I really appreciate are the detailed notes of what all the bits and pieces are. Many photographs posted to this site have no information at all to go with them. We are all here to learn from others so all info helps. What I r…

I came across these cheap aluminium moulds on ebay which could be useful if you feel inclined to try a tri-can resonator. See Barefoot Cajun's tri-can resonator for ideas.  Regards  John Dhttp://cgi.ebay.com.au/6-Spiral-Pyramid-Cake-Pan-Tin-Jelly-Mo…

Nice work Michael. I would like to see a closer detail of the tailpiece and what the original rain gutter bracket looked like. Regards John D

Hi Paul, Just noticed the interesting piece of circular round carved timber near the pen in your photos. Looks like it would make an attractive sound hole trim in another build. Did you carve /cut it out yourself? Regards John D

Hi James, Couldn't see from your posting where the "drawing" was located. If you have a look at this discussion (here) you will find info on scarf jointed heads and angles used as well as comments on stopping slipping when gluing. One method is to u…

Another way of doing this is to mount the pickup under the top of the box and extend a steel bar through the lid. A diagram previously submitted by another member on CBN shows how the bar can be kept at an appropriate length for either 3 or 4 string…

My first build

Here are some photos of my first build. I am very happy with the results. Looks good and sounds good.

Couldn't find any cigar boxes readily here in Newcastle (Downunder!) so used a Jasart painters box.

Hi John,
As far as I know in pickups ,the more winds/stronger magnets you have, the fatter/louder the sound will be, so the bass pickups will probably work well. Bear in mind that electro-magnetic pickups respond mostly to the string movement, not the resonance of the actual guitar top so as long as your strings are steel you should be right.

Hi John. Mike Ptolomey here. Yeah I did'nt add sound holes as I read in the manual I have that some people think it does'nt make a difference (I thought it would) so as this is my first try, and holes are easier to cut than fill, I would have a go without them first. Sounds ok and I have fitted a piezo pick up too. This guitar I bought as a kit of raw materials so it had all the bits except for the stainless screws I used for the bridge and nut, oh and the ab shell (that came from the beach). I did do all the shaping on the neck as it was timber stock.

Hi John its your friend on the GoldCoast Gary Martin and id be happy to go and get you some boxes from mermaid waters.Have a look at my photos to see what kind of boxes ive been geting there and within reason i could get some for you and send them down .they cost $5 for the labled boxes and $10 for the bare boxes.when i say bare ,unfortunately some have the government warning sticker on them ,but not all .

If you still want boxes, instead of going to Queensland, well, go back to artfire to find the ones you want. If you can let me know which ones you want, I can change it to Australia only for the ones you want. But I have to weigh each box to see what it would cost to ship it...and if you get more than one...the postage has to be calculated which is impossible unless I know what I am shipping and how many. Crazy stuff I know but that is how it is.

email me at
evilmommy@hotmail.com
and give me names, I will put them together and give you details on cost of shipping , etc.

Now that is a good idea to see if someone down around there cansee what they have, isn't it?
These cigar shoppes around here charge money for boxes, Little John. And some charge more than the box can be sold for...it is common place here for that to happen.

But I will send you one or tow or so if you can tell me what you want, or size, etc. Shipping is expensive, as you should have read by now from the links.
