Crystal Lite Diddley Bow

Low-carb us. Been thinking of doing this for years- a Thanksgiving mini-diddley w. C.L. plastic container. Not super loud but quick and fun. .024 wound string, Co2 capsule slide, credit card pick. THANKFUL! -Glenn

Pickup mount

I am building a two string short scale stand up ( actually, sit down) bass. I hope to use a Gitty bass pickup suspended under the strings on an L shaped bracket that will be mounted to the side. The body is long and narrow so I feel I will be able to make the bracket stiff enough for this application. My question... Would a metal bracket interfere with the pickup doing its job, or would an aluminum bracket be required, so as not to trouble the magnetic vibes. Either way, the bracket would be…

Update on the Status of G.S.Monroe Folk Music

This Blog Post is intended to catch up on the events in my life over the last few years (I see that 2017 was my last Blog). There has been a lot of changes.

1) Contrary to Rumor, I'm still building Cigar Box Guitars. After all the 3 string is my "first Love" in the stringed instrument world.

2) My Business has grown International, with sales in the United States, Canada, Great Britain, Germany, Ukraine, Sweden, Norway, Australia, and yes, even Hong Kong. I credit this success…

Spencer Davis R.I.P

Sad to hear of the death of Spencer Davis, great memories of seeing his band performing at Newcastle's Club A'gogo in the sixties (that's where I met the better half). Great music," Gimme some lovin' ", "I'm a man", "Keep on running "

Still got my 1965 'gogo membership car with the autographs of Spencer and Steve Winwood…

Guitar for 1st grandson Gideon

Almost finished with my guitar for my first grandson Gideon. First fret job which wasn't to bad. Used Mod Podg to do the graphics on front and back which are photos I've taken at Outer Banks, NC. Applied a couple coats of satin polyurethane to protect. Just need decorative box corners and perhaps a wickedbucker pickup.…

Glaxo Barnwood style 3 string slider

I was very much inspired by the feature on Michael Copado’s Humo Barnwood guitar guild.

I had a plank of well weathered hardwood laying around and decided now was the time to use it.
It’s well on the way to being an electric 3 string fretless slide machine.

Haven’t done a blog before so will try and upload some pics of the build so far.

First CBG Build

Excited to be a new member of Cigar Box Nation. This is my first build that I made from an Arturo Fuente box. Nothing elaborate, just learned on this one. Used Poplar neck, Oak fret board, Cbgitty tuners and wiring harness, and various bolts and screws I had around the house. Used a bridge humbucker from a telecaster and a piezo disk I salvaged from an old smoke detector. No frets, just a slider. Been fun learning to build and play slide. Now I'm addicted and a junky. :)

Now working…

Let’s talk LM386... Part 2 W/ Perfboard/Stripboard Amp Layouts

Here’s the conclusion of the Smokey amp & Amp head, this is a continuing saga, so there’s more to come? This time we’re adding an External Power Adapter. This will give us freedom from dying batteries & a steady 9 volts at all times? And it’s super EZ! Rock on, my good people...

CB Diddley Bow #2 - Complete

Had to make a 2nd one so my wife and I can try to learn to play these thangs, together!   I wanted to give this one a caribbean look with the coloring (even though the cigar box is from Holland). 25" scale with blues fret markers. Not sure if I'm "right" by doing that - I have watched 8,239 videos (give or take 8,100) so it is very possible I got my wires crossed on that.  The bridge is temporary, until I come up with something creative.…

Old Builds Found in an Antique Store

We recently moved to a new area. This past Saturday stopped in to an antique store and was smitten by this diddly bow. The huge single-tuner is very cool... wish I had a better shot to show it to you guys. The tag indicated is was from the 1930's.

And check out the old home-made fiddle. No background info on it.…

Arturo Fuente Magnum R

This is made with all CB Gitty's parts: Mocha tuners gold strap buttons, 2 gold mini buckers and gold hardtail also the frets are the narrow gold ones. Figured I would call it Goldie in honor of the good the bad and the ugly.
