One day, after working at the music store, I came home to discover that Bo Diddley had died. The news really put a cloud over my day. Upon reading the article of his passing, they commented on his playing on a Cigar Box Guitar in his youth, thus explaining his preference in guitar shapes... This intrigued me. new to cbg

New to cbg's, and new to community. Starting building for fun. using what I could find on forums and youtube. started bringing a couple to the craft shows where i was selling my turnings and boxes and other crafts. The cbg's drew more interest than anyhting else. So I'm sticking primarily to building them. And having so much fun doing it. Also make pretty cool wooden drums known as tongue drums. Radio Sucks

Preaching to the choir here, I'm sure, but radio is real bad.

Except for WDVX (if you aren't in Knoxville, TN you can stream it live on the Web), radio is void of anything remotely resembling art.

And WDVX plays lots of bluegrass, which I really don't care for, so I can't even listen to them a lot of the time. But look out Friday nights. That's when they have the Friday Night Blues Attack, or something like that, and it is AWESOME. It was so good last Friday night I almost… Continue

Trying to make a 6-string CBG - 9

So this is where I was a week or so ago. I needed to finish the wood and insert the electronics. Oh, and fix the problem with the frets.

I put two coats of varnish on it, sanding after the second. The mohagony wood looks great. The final color constrasts slightly with the box. I was hoping for that. In this picture you can see that I started on the…

lo-fi not hi-fi

i wake up in the morning to the sounds of a japanese phone made in korea, my coffee is made by a german machine made in korea that makes better coffee than me? i drive a japahese car made in a far off land (tyneside), my 5 string banjo was made in eastern europe... when i play my 3 string guitar i know where it came from, i know intimately every part of its person because i built this instument. it is local to me, an extension of myself, part of me...mine :0)
