CBG listed in the Sharper Image catalogue

I saw this today in the Sharper Image catalogue. Lots of people will have, at least, seen one of these now.

CBGs must be getting more exposure now.

This is my first cigarbox guitar.

My cigarbox is a slide guitar, and has 2 piezo pickups a oak neck, and a 25.5 scale. Has .13 .17 .26 strings tuned…

Uncle Enos CBG Banjo Build

Now I finished the build, read thru the string info, now it’s head scratching time.
3 E strings? I think the 5th is tuned an octave higher than 1st, so is the 3rd E just a heavier string?
I did purchase a set of strings from Pisgall for old banjo sound.
A frequency for the string would help me out, just learning the tuning thing…

A SPECIAL CB GITTY COUNTRY ROADS BANJO

A while ago  , I was in the process of  building a donated  banjo/  guitar for a local guy here that helps with delivering prescriptions ,  groceries , etc  for folks  that are unable to,  He does this  on his own time  . and even  occasionally  buys them coffee  etc.. out of pocket , and takes no payments .   Well  , due to a shipping snafu , my…

To Reach the Chord

This garden universe vibrates complete.

Some we get a sound so sweet.

Vibrations reach on up to become light,

And then thru gamma, out of sight.

Between the eyes and ears there lay,

The sounds of color and the light of a sigh.

And to hear the sun, what a thing to believe.

But it's all around if we could but perceive.

To…

CBGer’s Lament

I went to the Beer store and what did I see?

Three Padron boxes—just looking at me.

I jumped and yelled, surprised at my luck.

They cost me each fifty cents and a buck.

I took them home and looked at them all,

And pondered what to do with my…

Prototyping with a big ol' wine box

It all started when I listened to Steve Arvey music, I had to try to make one cigar box guitar.

I was really eager to start, didn't found easily a cigar box so I went for a wine box. The idea was to make everything from spare parts and see how it would go.

In Belgium (Europe), it's hard to find wood other than pine, so I went with a simple neck from leftover.…

Turnbuckle Bolt as a Bridge (left-handed thread)

Turnbuckles come with two bolts. I have several that have eye-bolts, but other bolts are available. One of the bolts has left-handed threads. It works well as a bridge, since the angle of the threads lines up with the angle on the bridge. I've had problems with right-handed bolts where I need to files grooves in the spots where the strings should be to keep them in place.

Bookie's Poor Man's Dobro

Just finished a poor man's Dobro a couple of hours ago. the idea had been stewing around in my head for some time and lo and behold, I'm pleased she was built. It has sustain until next Tuesday! Hot glued a piezo on the back side of the paint can lid (but it's awesome as an acoustic, too). 23 inch scale and every thing on it is Gitty with the exception of the neck , lid, sticker and paint. The neck says Psalm 98:4. Verse 4 starts off "Make a joyful noise..." which I thought was apropos…

Get your groove on for free

Yes, Summer is definitely music festival season.

But we can't always attend. Pandemic, traveling, entrance fees and so on all manage to take away from the fun of hearing a live concert. But there is a way to get a bit of the fun back at no cost, namely live recordings.

What do you do when you already went through your record collection and DVD collection for the hundredth time and have not a single penny to put on new stuff? Well you head out to the Internet Archive's free…

Looking for a band to join.

Hello All!

I live near Daytona Beach, FL and I am looking for a group that might humor a new CBG player!  I'm a decent vocalist and used to play six-string (chords only) and sing in a folk/bluegrass band.

Any thoughts?

Gun Boat Annie 3 String CBG

Gitty sells a box that looks like a Shellback's tattoo. For some reason it made me think of that old Steve McQueen movie The Sand Pebbles. Story about an American gun boat in China back in the 1930s. The proverbial light came on and thus my latest 3 string CBG, #22, was finally born this evening. The poplar wood neck is red only on the top and the frets, dots, and notes are wood burnt on the side. (The red stain is simply old barb wire completely dissolved in…

Gittybucker

So I bought a few Gittybuckers a while back and am wondering the best way to mount them (on the guitar that is).

I was also considering putting a strip of Velcro on it then one from the neck to the bridge so I could experiment with placing it in different possitions.  Since it is magnetic, maybe even a strip of metal it could attach to.

Any thoughts on this?

latest lapsteel build

Here is guitar #193.  I wanted to make one similar to my little Magnatone guitar that I had renovated a while back.  It is just a tad larger in proportions and has a 23 inch scale as opposed to the Magnatone 22 3/8 scale.  I am pleased with how it turned out.  Tuned it to C6, string spacing is a bit narrower than most but still very playable.…

One String Wonder- A Major journey

Here’s a little skill builder exercise for beginners, based on the Major scale. It starts with a simple Scale, then progressively builds on it, adding one note at a time. You only need one string for this, so Diddley Bow’s are perfect for this exercise.
