No, not musicals .... puhleeeeeze! not musicals.

I'm talking stuff like " It might get loud" "Honeydripper", even good movies with killer soundtracks.

"Barnyard" was cool ... even had a CBG in it.

I thought "Surfs up!" ( you know, the surfing penguin movie) had a killer soundtrack with new music.

Any more?

Some good ones on this list you all have started.

Might want to give "Cadillac records" a spin. Its kind of a dramatic documentary on the "birth of rock and roll". It has some interesting performances.

There was another 80's movie that had some cool "underground" stuff, at least so I thought in the day, it was either "Wreckless" or "Restless", I cant remember. (I think its the latter.)

Leadbelly 1976 is a cool movie too, its about (guess who) Leadbelly.

The movie starts off with him being in jail when Alan Lomax visits him to record his songs and then it roll's into the early life of Huddy Ledbetter, how he got to playin in whorehouses, how he got his 12string guitar, meet Blind Lemon Jefferson and so on.

Cool movie, old, but cool if you like old songs like "dug my grave with a silver spade", "Goodnight Irene and "Silver city bound"

You can watch it fully on youtube, this is part 1 of 14

Enjoy.

wow no one has said 'The Wall'?  An obscure on from 80's 'Roadie' stars Meatloaf...pretty entertaining in a campy vein. I won't even go into documentary films, least not yet.

'All My Friends are Funeral Singers' is pretty cool.  'Walk the Line' I  liked and I tend to hate mainstream films.  'the Runnaways' is pretty decent if you like Joan Jett, 'Blues Brothers' which was already mentioned I think, I've not seen the one where the chick plays Bob Dylan but plan to at some point.

There's tons I can't think of atm...being late...particularly doc films maybe I'll work up a list.

crossroads' blues brothers' blues brothers 2000' forest gump' pulp fiction' ray' cadalac records'i walk the line' standing in the shadows(of motown) the last waltz' csi' i could go on but the ralph Macao seen in crossroads when his girlfriend leaves drips sadness my all time fav in fact study the whole movie

The opera? I watched much of the movie and loved it.

any one say Black Snake Moan !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yep. I mentioned it earlier, but it's worthy of another shout.

The opera ...... Tommy? It was terrible. The Wall? the only good out of that was the one of 2  produced to single for radio play.  This is just my opinion, so don't flame.

btw- been watching some anime on Netflix lately ..... funny, nut there is a lot of pretty good slide guitar used.

The movie Tommy with all the extra musicians is the only version of that album I like. Seems like it has more excitement then the band themselves playing.

Just a few off the top of my head:

"Oil City Confidential" - brilliant documentary about Dr Feelgood.

"Scott Pilgrim vs The World" - great soundtrack (at least if you like garage/punk/Pixies-ish stuff like I do)

"That Summer" (1979 film starring Ray Winstone not the upcoming French one) - soundtrack is a brilliant collection of punk/new wave classics (and it was released on translucent yellow vinyl)

"Paris Texas" - Ry Cooder soundtrack. Just classic.

"Crystal Voyager" is a 1973 biopic of surfer George Greenough, which is best known for a stunning 23-minute final segment set to Pink Floyd's Echoes.

"A Mighty Wind" - does for folk what Spinal Tap did for metal

"Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid" has a soundtrack by Bob Dylan, which is where Knockin' On Heaven's Door comes from.

And on the subject of Dylan, "I'm Not There" has a star-studded soundtrack of Dylan covers.

And finally for now, "Zabriskie Point" - not a fantastic movie but often cited as having a striking soundtrack (generally by old hippies).
