Okay I'm well into my first CBG build.  I got the box as a free sample from a shop that makes boxes in large lots for local (Miami) cigar makers.  My box has never had a cigar in it, so the sweet aroma of the cedar is a delight.

Of course, building these things is instantly addictive, so I hit up some cigar stores for additional boxes and found some real nice ones, including a Cohiba Grande.  So now I have about a dozen used cigar boxes in my garage.  Problem is, neither my wife or I smoke and the tobacco odor emanating from them is making us nauseous!  How can I eliminate the tobacco smell and not ruin the boxes?  I don't want to put them outside in the shed 'cause I'm afraid the heat will warp them.

Anyone else have this problem?

Just shooting in the dark here, but try putting some whole coffee beans in them. Or a box of baking soda?

I really doubt it'll be possible to get the tobacco smell out of the boxes. You could just go get some of the huge Ziplock bags to store them in. We have had ziplock baggies here big enuff to put a cbg player in.

You could try a tight sealing plastic"tote" container and add a dryer sheet or two to see if it will remove the smell. This would work with the huge baggies also.

A coat of shellac on the inside of the box might do the trick.

Gees, I thought 'Stinkin Up The House' was like me playing at open mike night.

I don't smoke either and detest the smell of cigarette smoke.  But I LOVE the smell of good seegars and boxes.  You can polyureathane or shellac the inside and that will take care of most of the 'odor'.

As far as the smell of tobacco goes, I live/work in/near Winston Salem, NC. Everything here smells like tobacco.

I love and wouldn't have it any other way.

I've found if you just leave them open, out in the garage or outside, the smell diminishes after a few weeks. It won't entirely disappear, but it should be less noticeable.

Thanks for the tips guys, I'll try them.  After I posted this last night, I tried a light spray of Lysol on one and today the smell is diminished, though not gone entirely.  I never realized that the concentrated smell of the tobacco in a relatively small space would be so overwhelming.  I work in a casino where there's a lot of smoke but the air exchangers are so powerful that you would never notice it.

And a PS to Swampapple about working at the border:  My wife is a Federal Immigration agent with Homeland Insecurity now, but 30 years ago, she was the first female Border Patrol agent in Yuma, AZ! - and NOTHING got past her! LOL!

A slice of onion inside should do the trick - i use it to clear paint odour after using gloss paint in the room.

 ...or sell the boxes to me - i love the smell of cigar tobacco! (-;

Sounds like a title for a blues song!
