Has anyone tried using temporary tattoos on a CBG? I think I will try it, but wonder about clear coating them. They are "waterproof" but can be removed with alcohol. This makes me wonder if the solvent in something like Krylon clear acrylic spray will dissolve or lift them. I guess shellac is out of the question since it is alcohol based. Are there water based clear coats that don't cost a lot? Anyone tried this before? Your tips will save me time and trouble of experimenting on on my own, and will be appreciated.

Try that and spray on Deft clear wood finish.

Do you mean water based clear wood finish, or lacquer? I see they make both.

I have used water-slide decals with good results. Easy to make and apply and you can find almost any pattern of clip art you can imagine out there on the web.

I have tried temporary tattoos and found them a pain to get to come off the paper cleanly and stay in the place you want.  Also if you put them on a dark background it can be hard to see them.

I have since switched to waterslide decals - far superior and they come in 2 main types - one for dark backgrounds and one for light backgrounds.  If you look on ebay you can buy ready made ones off ebay quite cheaply http://stores.ebay.com/Just-Pinups-and-a-little-bit-more http://stores.ebay.com/HECTIC-DECALS.  Another option is to buy the waterslide paper (ebay is good for this also) and print your own design off your computer.  Again you can get it for light or dark backgrounds.  The best waterslide decal paper is from Lazertran http://www.lazertran.com/ (make sure you buy inkjet if that is what your printer is - the first time a small shop sold me some it was for a laser printer).  If you buy the cheaper stuff off ebay it works well also but you have to spray it with laquer first to stop the ink running when you put it in water to slide the decal off.

Here are a few the local school kids did (aged 10 to 11)

Hey thanks for all the tips!

Goldenrod Spider temp tat on the third line of my favert CBG "Goldenrod" It's held up through almost three years "of fretless slide that is" Gotta love the temp tatoos.

Oh, Yeah.

And another thing... Coat any bare wood with a couple coats of varnish or laquer before appling decals.  They don'tlike to stick to rough surfaces.
