This could be git related or not. So, what's on your workbench at the moment?

I have 4 scarf joint necks in different stages of work.

A 25" scale pine 5 string neck for a Banjo-Res, A 25" scale Red Oak neck for my 6 string Strat-Res build, A 24 & 1/2" scale Red Oak neck for my 6 string Double Cut Tele build and a 27" scale 6 string Baritone Conversion neck for a Modern Strat body I have.

Yea, you always see the knurled concentric pots on the 63’ reissues, I like the volume/blend/tone setup on the Jbass, you know where the middle pot blends between the 2 pickups? I think that configuration  comes from an early 2 pickup Esquire or Tele? What brand are the single coils, Jbass pickups usually have pretty good bottom tone?

The J Bass pickups are cheap Ceramic mag pickups I bought from GFS on their old parts sale page. They just didn't have any good output to them til I wired them together in series. Then they had some girth, but not like a regular double coil has due to the space between them.

Too bad, but I bet they’d shine with an active preamp pushing at them?

Well I was using a First Act 4watt amp I modified for bass through a subwoofer out of a TV Surround system, but it sounds even better through my new Ampeg BA-108 2owatt amp! Woohoo

That’s kool Paul, I know the feeling. I have an Ampeg  portaflex & SVT, they really thump some bass!! Maybe the conversion would’ve been better if you’d swapped some capacitors for bigger ones instead adding the subwoofer, surround sound speakers generally need a driver circuit of at least 35 watts, so maybe that’s why the 4 watts was lacking?

I put the .047 input cap on a 3-way with a .1 on the other side. so .047 for guitar and .1 for bass like the "Bassman Mod" for the Ruby and Noisy Cricket amps. That little Sub works well for clean acoustic CBG's and don't want to anger neighbors with the bass. LOL

All this Bass talk is making me want to pull my JB out of storage :)

I know what you mean. I wanted a SVT, but funds dictated the Demo model BA-108 Sweetwater had on sale.

building a 600 watt panel / 30 amp charge controller / 24 volt battery / 2500 watt inverter solar system. last necessary part arrived today, I'm out of excuses.

never ending CCTV camera system. 24 channels up and running, adding 4 channels for the neighbors chicken coop. it's a skunk and coyote magnet.

I think we all what to see a couple pics and know more about that Infirmity Citrus President!

Hello everybody,

Finally broke down and bought some tonewoods from Stewmac.  I figured it's time to cut into solid slabs and get my git-making skills up to a semi-lutherie level.

My experience was that I find that I can still use my jigsaw to cut out the body but had to get a blade for hardwoods because the one that came with mine was a general cutting blade.  After the switch to a laminated wood blade, my Black and Decker jigsaw sliced through that slab of ash like butter; as if I bought an expensive jigsaw.

If any of you go that route, I recommend to cut off the excess with a table-saw, drill holes for sharp edges and turns, and then cut with a jigsaw.  Cutting off the excess releases a lot of stress on the jigsaw and makes a smoother ride.

I'm still thinking about pickup cavities, might be minihumbuckers or mini-P90s (P90 recipe in Pbass pickup form).  Also, carefully crafting a neck pocket jig.

I bought a slab of poplar too just because it was cheap.  I decided to go around the internet looking for lumber shops, Stewmac can't be the only ones in town and it seems some bans has lifted for woods, because before, I couldn't get exotic ones shipped to me.  Anyway, I found this one place called Rockler and prices are very decent.  So decent that I ordered for my next build consisting of zebrawood, purpleheart and bocote. A real exotic 4 stringer!

Hope everyone is doing well in being holy and to keep building that next genius guitar never heard.

Thanks for the heads up on that supplier, I'll have to check them out.
Stewmac has great stuff, but their prices are high. I usually only buy there stuff on sale.
