This could be git related or not. So, what's on your workbench at the moment?
I have 4 scarf joint necks in different stages of work.
A 25" scale pine 5 string neck for a Banjo-Res, A 25" scale Red Oak neck for my 6 string Strat-Res build, A 24 & 1/2" scale Red Oak neck for my 6 string Double Cut Tele build and a 27" scale 6 string Baritone Conversion neck for a Modern Strat body I have.

Hi Paul, be aware that the finish clear coats are usually only as good as the previous coats. If you have scratches and dings in the base coats they may still show up under a polished gloss finish. If you don't like it after all that work you have even more finish to remove.
I would go for removing the scratches by sanding, not just a fine sanding. But the guitars for you so really it's what you can live with that matters.
Taff
Yeah some of those scratches are deep enough that I'm going to need to take it to the wood and repaint.
Nothing right now. Just finished this one yesterday... https://cigarboxnation.com/video/midnight-special-cbg
That's a nice one.
I got the parts I ordered for the Bluesbird and Strat today and did a little work on the Strat.
I replaced the plastic nut on the Strat with a Tusq nut and then started loading the pickguard. I got a custom set of pickups about a year ago and have been waiting for something to put them in. I got the switches in, but had to stop when it came to the pots. The pickguard is drilled for 3/8" shafts and the pots I had were for 5/16" holes so they flopped around in the holes. Had to order some more pots.
Here's a pic of the guard so far mocked up in the body and the look I was going for. But I have to strip the paint down to the body and repaint. Decided to paint it Blue.
I'm liking that black look. Its like I can hear the vibes of it just by looking at it.
Right now, almost done with the 7 guitars I'm building. 1 is top priorty because my father's birthday is next week. He is the reason how I got into guitar making. He originally had a black Telecaster when he met my mother. Since his skills were so horrible ("it sounded like a cat being tortured to death" says mom) she had him sell it so they can provide for us new borns at the time. It wasn't until I was 30 yrs old that he finally mentioned that guitar, how he loved it and was in a band as lead singer. So I made him one, my first build ever. An odd creation but it the thought that counts. Anyway this gonna be an excellent guitar and actually...playable :D
Thanks Franscios and Ill Green, the black on Black with Orange plastics look great like I thought it would and I'm really hating that the Black needs to come off. I already have 2 black guitars and this Blue will look good with that guard. Sigh
I know stripping paint is always a real pain but sometimes it's well worth it.
I did that to an old wooden camera that was painted battleship gray at the factory only to discover it was a beautiful hardwood underneath.
On these factory painted guitar bodies, I do just that. I get a paint stripper from Lowe's that works great and comes with a spray bottle. A + is that the paint stripper comes in a large tin can that makes an excellent body for a canjo.
