I'm taking a vacation and want to haul my CBG along. Does anyone have suggestions for a quick, sturdy travel case. Carry on...hopefully. Thanks Ken

Thanks for the suggestions, I'm reconsidering the vacation aspect but will likely build a travel case for general use. I think you're right about airlines, baggage handlers don't have a good rep handling guitars.

Quick and dirty? er um sturdy?

cut 6 rectangles out of that cardboard you stashed away when your refrigerator was delivered, and join them with packing tape to seal the box inside, add a packing-tape handle and you are ready to go.  you'll have to cut your git out of the box when you arrive, and re-tape it to return.

As to carry-on, that will depend on the airline, since that could be interesting trying to shove it under the seat in front of you, bwahaha

Thanks JL, I think I'll try a modified version of this. Regarding carry on I was thinking overhead bin but I'm sure you are right about it being oversize for carry on. Dang!

After I built my first guitar, I got an idea to build a case. I built it using 1/4 birch plywood. Padded it with foam and felt. Then I covered it with a vinyl leather like material. Its sturdy. I built it in a couple of sessions, and this would hold up to even the airlines.

Can I substitute bourbon for beer?

Nice case, beautiful guitar!

Thanks Ken. That was my first custom build. Someone on this site named it "Rockin Peacenick" I Like it.

The Double Humbucker gives it some serious kick.

I got free acoustic guitar case, you know, the cardboardy, brass clasp style. Laid the cbg in it, added some sponge foam blocks cut to size, glued 'em in. Wasn't very compact, but it is sturdy for my git.

An alternative would be to make a travel cbg, length that fits your suitcase. Build it sturdy. Wrap it with clothes, maybe make the box open for cargo space. Can even relocate the tuners into the box to allow for more scale length.
Thanks Kigar that's n interesting idea. Has anyone built one with an easily removable neck? It might be a challenging design/build..."The Travel Box" fits in your suitcase.

I saw one here somewhere where the neck could slide partially into the box, but not one that was removable.  I don't think it would be overly hard to make the neck come off, for example a bolt on neck with threaded inserts, but what would happen to the strings?

1" dowel diddly bow. Will fit in a fishing rod travel case,or a piece of 2" PVC pipe with end caps.
