Art Festival? A Selling Success!

Sorry in advance, this will be windy. Last Fall, an artist friend encouraged me to apply to a local juried art festival. What the heck, I took three gits to present for inclusion, not expecting to be…Continue

"Taffy, I pulled 2 poles with success, once. Maybe I just got lucky. The git hasn't come back for repair....but I'm going to advise others to NOT use this method. Fixing a git over a failed pickup problem that I caused would be a huge fail.…"

"I have used the Keda dyes.I mixed the according to the directions using a pint of water. I would try using less water which should intensify the color. Interesting stuff to work with, a lot different than wood stain."

Aniline wood dye

I've been looking to try some aniline wood dye on some purpose-built git boxes..LPG's, reso's and the like. I usually stain or paint, then clear 'em, but the examples of dyed wooden items, including guitars, can look quite stunning, far more color and grain than the stains I've used. Aniline wood dye powder is not too pricey, so I'm goin' in. Any of you sawdust makers have any experience with water soluble aniline wood dye, good or bad?See More

"Taffy, thanks for the pic's and the tip. I often use shellac as a sealer, before poly topcoat, and haven't veered off of that for many builds. Time to try a shellac and wax finish...seems like a time saver, and good life as well. And, no…"

Grandpa replied to Fantacone Box Works's discussion Staining... before frets or after?
"That's how I make mine, stain before fretting. It works. I glue my fretboards to the neck, and trim/finish sand the fretboard before I cut my fret slots, but either way that works for you....it's all good."

Grandpa replied to Brent Kasl's discussion Jumbo vs Medium Fret Wire
"Typically, I think most builders and players prefer medium frets on their gits, often with a Jumbo zero fret. That's how I make 'em. For a bass git, I use Jumbo fretwire with a bone nut. Make and play what ya love."

"Look like a couple of nice, primitive-finished diatonic players. Strainers, expanded metal, and screen sound hole trim are also always a nice, "found" touch. Lookin' good."

Nice to hear from you Grandpa, hooked is an under statement I feel like a pike on a spinner.
In the process of building an amp, I hope with a difference, we shall see, however I'm looking for a project that will take a while and a lot of planning, tlc and all that, so it's has to be a steel lap ukulele, got some nice oak and mahogany fouled in the shed.
Watch this space,
Take care,
