Backing tracks - if I could only solo

Started this discussion. Last reply by Timothy Hunter Nov 2, 2017. 6 Replies

I am probably the last to know but I just discovered backing tracks. Tons of them on YouTube such as slow blues in G. Now I need to try to learn some solo riffs. Anyone have any favorite tracks to…Continue

What do you do with your cut off pieces?

Started this discussion. Last reply by RTZGUITARS Oct 9, 2017. 29 Replies

I have now filled a fourth box of short pieces from a inch or two up to maybe a foot.  Any good ways to store these, or do you toss/burn them or do something else?  They can always be used for a…Continue

Tuner Hole Save

Started this discussion. Last reply by Kigar Sep 5, 2017. 3 Replies

Thought I'd share a goof up that ended up with an easy save.  I am working on a build using the cheap tuners you can see in the picture.  Through some bad layout skills the angled tuner is opposite…Continue

Fell off the horse - bad planning or maybe bad wood

Started this discussion. Last reply by john mackay Dec 30, 2016. 5 Replies

I was drilling large tuner holes for a u-bass cbg when the wood let go.  Only real harm was the time lost and the small piece of wood, but some anger management was required.  Not sure if it was the…Continue

"It is a uke, and yes the neck is offset to match the stripes. The stripes are like music notation and have little notes on them.  It has a nice tone and good volume."

"I drilled holes kind of like Picks drawing, but as close as they could be from each other.  Used bigger bits on the ends.  Then filed the final shape like Rich, but using flat and half round files. "

Kigar replied to Slim Pickens's discussion Anyone using bisected dowels for neck stock?
"Still could be a revolution. I'm stuck trying to visualize a scarf joint with the dowel, but the tuners on the bottom would definitely work. "

"I'd say go for it, part of the fun is to see what happens. But a couple things come to mind - a 1x2 rectangle even with well rounded edges will be stiffer than a half circle. It would also depend on if it was hardwood or not. Also the headstock…"

Kigar replied to wizzo's discussion Standard Economy tuners vs. upgraded tuners
"The cheap ebay uke and guitar tuners look and feel the same to me.  I think both are pretty low end, and the quality is random. No staying in tune problems but maybe three out of 24 have stripped the gear when tuning up. The good news is that…"

License Plate Guitar

Posted on January 31, 2016 at 9:35pm 6 Comments

Thought I'd post this one, it was my second build.  Box was scrap hardwood flooring, the tongue side made a great recess for the plate.  The bottom is scrap thin ply of unknown origin.  The neck is the unique feature, it is half of a hickory branch that was originally intended for a bow but I decided the the knots and kink are beyond my bowyer abilities.  The kink made the string break for the tuners.  The action is no action, with the curvy branch it is slide only for this one.  I passed…

My First Cigar Box Guitar
