Hi everybody. about to start doing the neck for my first cbg this week.

was planning on using this fretscale found on another cigarbox guitar site.
http://cigarboxguitars.com/workshops/24_5_Guitar_Fretboard_Scale.php

it measures 24.5 inches.

What measurements should i use on the body/box. From last fret to Bridge?
noticed that some of you add about one inch(?) to the neck after the last fret?

Any hints and tips my friends?

Get a box ... any box. The neck and box relationship can be moved around as needed and still keep your 24.5 scale.
I set the neck so that the bridge is about 1/3 of the way from the tail end of the box. It's a compromise position that works well.
I then mark the neck for where the box goes and start cutting.
once the neck is mounted to the box for a test fit I figure how many frets I can fit with out stuffing one right up against the box.
Don't worry about last fret to bridge measurements ... it's nut to bridge that counts.
The space you notice is just a fret not placed ... you'll probably hit the box lid when fretting that close anyway.

BTW- the measurement on that scale is 24.5 " .... thats the distance from the nut to bridge.

the only difference , I use a 25.5 scale.

Matt
The length of the scale is from the nut to the bridge, that is your 24.5 inch length.
alright i get it, never measured this one. We us the metric system in sweden, can i blame that? hahaha

Of course, i get it now, just printed the scale at work and never measured it at home, did now.
No problem.
Went out to measure the box. a 24.5 scale did not fit the bridge 1/3 from the tail end of the box with the last fret directly at the top of the cigarbox.
But i could just leave an an inch between the last fret and the top of the box right?? Still playable 24.5 scale?
You can put the bridge back some if you need to, look at my pics, both guitars use a 24" scale and the bridge in a different location on each, the box's are different sizes too. It dose not matter how many frets you have, just that the bridge is the right distance from the nut. You probably wont play the really high frets anyway (close to the box).

Ill probably leave an inch between the last fret on my scale and the box. This should place the bridge somewhat to the "left" of the logo. What do you think?
Sounds good to me. It will work and you will be impressed when you string it up the first time, then you will make changes for the next one : )

So, finally, got a couple of days of from work, got all the parts together borrowed tools from my dad, about to get started, got me 2 really nice pieces of oak. one is a little less then 1.5" wide, and the other is like 1 3/4", thinkin of using the wider one for this 4 string. Any uggestions or heads up so far? starting my build tomorrow (finally..!)
just the standard heads up, measure, measure, cut. And have fun!
