just was wondering if anyone here has tried to take a box like the rocky patel batallion cigar box apart and turn the inside of it to the outside,so the smooth wood is on the outside. i am going to attempt it and was looking fer some insight from folks that might have had that experience before. any thoughts would be welcome and i would be grateful, thanks in advance. the pic i posted is the kind of boxes i am talking about doing the reverse boxmosis to.

Reverse Boxmosis! Love it!! :o)

Iv no experience but I would reckon a lot depends on how well glued together it is. Some boxes Iv had just fall apart, others wont come apart in anything but bits...

Cant tell from the pic, but are the joints dovetailed or butted?
Sounds good - I read something from David Beede saying the shiny inside of a box would reflect sound better than the usual rough internal finish, so if thats so this boxmosis idea should be good.

Great pic BC - what did you use for the reso part in these two beauties?
Now that is thinking inside the box,,,
Um, just a thought if it starts to look bad...

Couldnt you take a progressivly finer sander to the outside, and make the outside look like the inside?
How about just flipping the lid and sanding the sides like Ben suggested? I just flipped the lid of a vintage box because the outside was destroyed but the inside had a cool graphic.
So, Mr. Reverse Boxmoses, you must be talking about the top. Punch the pins in or cut them Put it back with small hinges.
Barefoot, we got a Gurkha box with really rough wood on the outside... perfect size for CBG... I thought it looked more "MOJO" with the coarse finish ... more "front porch "... guess it's all in what you're looking for ...
thanks for your reply its in the beginning stages now.

the thing that made me want to reverse this box is that all four sides look like they were all cut from the same piece of wood and the grain is very straight and the color is uniform and nice looking.. and the top is an excellent example of spanish cedar.thanks to all you folks fer your suggestions and answers.this will be a nice project upon completion.
So some of these box' wood is solid, but some is ply. Any thoughts?
the one in question is all solid Wes its a great box,i have used the batallion boxes before fer4-string banjo neck guitars and was impressed with the tone from them. they do look nice too with the fuzzy look, but sometimes you get one and have a look on the inside and wow nice grain off up in here, that is what i have found. i have had 5 or 6 and not found one this nice before on the inside.i still have a couple of others and they look the same on the outside but not the same on the inside. gonna post pics as soon as it all comes back together, the funny thing that got my attention was one side was loose and i said oh well guess i need to fix that.and that is what made me ask myself,i wonder if i can take this one apart without messing it up.so i got it apart without messing up. looking for tone, that the box provides.
