If you could only have one, which would it be?

I'm more concerned with cutting my own neck stock to size than the actual CBG build but the notching of my necks, headstocks and such would be a nice change from the hand saw/chizzle method I use now.

Just been shopping around and was curious what other more expearienced folks might think.

Any thoughts or guidance would be appreciated.

Yep that's it with a stand... Works for me for now...

Google band saw set up and you will find info on setting it up and getting it to cut straight and true. Mine was a mess when i got it, the blade skewed and had trouble cutting any kind of straight line, now it cuts perfect.

Hard to beat 20 bucks.

Ok...heres my pick in your area...i'd be on this like flies on dootie..both items...lol

this ones a bit spendy, but looks solid...

....or you could strike lucky like I did. My dads neighbor whom I had never met (he passed away 10+years ago, dad has only lived there 5+ years) was a luthier. His wife had just moved to assisted living last year. Now, their son has the house as a rental and he wants the garage empty so he can store his hotrods and motorcycles. Dad told me I NEEDED to get over there NOW. Glad I did. Bought a band saw and a jigsaw (like the ones I used way back in 6th grade shop class) a planer, a joiner, a table saw, 3 belt sanders, a big box of hand tools, lots of different vises/clamps, a bunch of blades/sandpaper, a bunch of patterns and jigs, a box full of hardwood, an acoustic kit, a dulcimer kit, an old 10" tube amp, a fiddle that needs completed, and an old Ibanez mandolin. His asking price???

$400

Wow, thats the buy of the year, I think all that beats my free bandsaw.

It was really odd how it all came into play all at one time, with me starting to build cbg's, and dads neighbor clearing out his dads workshop, all the while never knowing that a luthier ever lived next door. I took it as a sign, I was destined to build my own instruments. The only drawback to the whole deal was that my dad got the big drill press from the neighbor, but dad gave me his bench drill press since he wasn't going to need it anymore. ;-)

with kind of luck you should have also bought a lottery ticket

I did... I lost... lol

Mine off Craigslist:

Thats just like mine Wes, I just want to add a fence to it. Clamp and board works but could be nicer.  The nice thing is I can pick it up to move it.

yeah, that's what the green clamps and what their holding is -- a rip fence. Plus I wanna see if I can add some wheels (locking of course) to the bottom to help move it around.
