More on fixing the neck to the box...

on my resonator, i shaped the neck to a wishbone shape inside the box to allow for the cone, in contact with the lid. great resonation.

Congratz very inspirational.. it wasnt a difficult decision for me either, despite the excellent quality of the other contenders, u really stood out. 6 gold stars for the creativity.. the hollow fretboard & 'floating' frets is perfect for some drone…

When I made my fiddle I did not use plans but spent a lot of time working on paper. Member Nick made one from vintage plans he found somewhere -- maybe even here. I used a pre-made fingerboard and tailpiece because I wanted a very standard feeling. Some folks bolt on the neck, some attach to a strut that goes across the bottom of the box, some build a cradle and have the box rest in it but provide no structure to the stress of the strings. You can search for "fiddle" and "violin" in the ning search thingy at the very top right of this page.

Also google "carolina fiddle". That guy is a member here, too, but I can't remember his member name just now.

Do a little looking around and I'd be happy to answer any questions that come up! Good luck -- it was a great adventure, but I am not sure I'll be building another one any time soon!

hey mike, how are ya? i get most of this stuff i use to build with at junk stores but i did get the blender part of this build about 6 months ago from an old blender my sister-in-law had that she burned up the motor in. when she got a new blender i got the old one to take apart, and got some old baking pans from her i used to make resonator cover plates too.so its her kitchen i get some stuff from with her permission yep. my lil womans kitchen don,t got no stuff i can get from it haaaaaaaaa. so i,m safe indeed.

Nice CBGs. Very creative with the beer cans. Nice to meet you all the ways from OK, are you? What is the weather like out there?
There are so much information on this site, it is so unbelievable, and so many talented people, too. They are always willing to help you. Talk to you later.

There you go Mike, this is the link for the Scale Chart that you left a comment at. If you do alot of different scale lengths, I know I do thats why I bought one of these charts over 20 years ago. The easiest way to measure fret slots that I have ever seen, you won`t be sorry if you get one. I turned alot of members on to this chart over the years. Buy one it`s well worth it.
