Let's take my 4-string CBG from a Camacho box as an example: acoustically it doesn't sound at all, but with two Power Rails from GuitarFetish even with a simple amp with volume and gain only it…Continue

Treasures of the Museum of Appalachia

Someone out there living near Clinton, Tennessee, site of the Museum of Appalachia, with its great collection of traditional musical instruments? For a first impression, check the documentation about this treasure on http://www.cigarboxnation.com/video/museum-slideshow.

To study the details of the presented instruments, to refer to a single instrument, a busy slide show is far from ideal, it would be…

Kuvat sippiviulusta? Photos of a finnish lumberjack's «sippiviulu»?

Posted on November 17, 2016 at 2:57am 2 Comments

Finnish lumberjacks played on their camps an instrument similar to One String Sam's diddley bow, sometimes in duett with a crosscut saw.

For finnish followers I add here descriptions I found on internet:

sippiviulu - säilykepurkista, laudanpalasta ja kitaran tai viulunkielestä tehty savottajätkän soitin.

Olen jopa nuorena nähnyt sahan soittoa sekä sippiviulun soittoa duettona. Sippiviuluhan on laudan päälle viritetty peltipurkki jonka yli menee rautalanka…

Hi Moritz, I'll gladly take a look at your work about How To Play and give what feedback I can.

Hi Moritz, for sure it wasn't just you, sorry if I wrote it that way. I wouldn't have guessed that English wasn't your native tongue, you write better than I do! I agree with you in many aspects, I'm cautiously optimistic that Lace will take our feedback and adjust and develop based on that, but it takes time. I imagine this is a very small division in the whole for them and as such only gets a very limited focus. On the other hand,, they could have a completely different agenda and so be it. Shane may have more communication with them and know more. Time will tell.

Hi Moritz,

Unless I missed part of his comment, which is possible since it was deleted before I could read it in the forum,,, it sounded to me like he was upset that you were a bit disrespectful to Lace and company,, which I thought too until you clarified in a message. Shane deleted the message, so it should either end there or else taken to private message to get clarity. Personally, I haven't even given a thought to any infringement, unless a person goes into production, you can build whatever you want. Lace hasn't come out and demanded we stop, and until he does I'm not even going to worry a bit about that aspect of it.

It was probably intended to say something like measured electrical output. That is the problem with an ipad tablet touch screen keyboard. Sorry for the confusion.

If you want to know the total output impedance of your current transformer pickup without an LCR meter, just assume that the shorted primary of the CSE-187L current transformer is 80 Ohms, then just add the resistance of the added string loop wire to get the new output impedance with the string loop. Here is an example. Adding a 6 inch hairpin loop to the CSE-187L adds 105 micro ohms per inch for a total of 630 micro ohms. Now multiply 630 micro ohms by 250,000 or 500 squared (turns ratio squared) to get 157.5 ohms. Add this to the 80 ohms of the shorted primary to get 237.5 ohms as the new output impedance.

Just using this method you can calculate the output impedance of your current transformer pickup and not need an LCR meter.

If you are feeding an XLR mic input that has an actual input impedance of 2400 ohms, then you want to target the output impedance of your cuttent transformer pickup to be about one tenth of the actual XLR mic input impedance of about 240 ohms.

This technique just allows you to predict the outcome of using various string loop wire gauges and lengths.

I hope this helps.

Hi Moritz, sadly, it doesn't surprise me, the problem with those threads is the person who initiates them can remove them at any time, taking everyone elses input with them, not the first time it's happenned, it's a pity as there was some good stuff on there, some i wanted to reference again at some time. I try not to get paranoid about these things, but there seems to be a pattern.

All I can say to this is that most of us are lazy. It takes time to go back and verify things one thinks one sees or remembers, and not everyone may be as scrupulous as that. However, Wayfinder did finally go back and look, and changed his opinion.

That's weird, Moritz. Did you somehow get blocked on that discussion? Ask Dan Sleep to look into it, as he is one of the site admins.

I suspect that most people are more interested in building a pickup, but, I can appreciate your desire to insure that credit is given where it's due.
