I'm new to Cigar Box Nation. I've been playing the CBG for a few years now, but have never tried to build one myself. My question is this: Do you think it would be a good idea to order the parts for a cigar box guitar from C.B. Gitty, and then use those parts just as a template to build my own guitar? It seems you could used the wood you want to use, the box you select, and cut the neck, etc. using the parts Gitty supplies as only a template. Does that make sense to anyone, or am I off the mark with this idea? I know absolutely nothing about the construction of the CBG so any advice you can give will be appreciated.

Why not, lots of builders use Gitty parts, it’s a good start

Welcome Barry. Yes I think that's a good idea. There's heaps of info on all stages of the build process on this site, Brian Q finds them all the time. And bucket loads on Utube.
I first learnt to build guitars by taking old ones apart, reading every thing and then videos, then CD's, still reading books and checking the internet. And still learning.

I made my son a kit CBG and sent it interstate to him. Frome that he has built four of his own. I built an acoustic guitar for him and that spurred him on to start building acoustic guitars and has two started on the bench. Go for it Barry, enjoy.

Barry, Shane’s book is a great resource for the questions that you’re asking? He also learned using a known template for the 1st & going out of the box for parts on the next ones? $19.99 online. The YouTube channel of Glenn Watt is also great for questions asked beginning builders. As long as your scale length is placed correctly, you can accommodate any box to any neck?

Thanks Brian!
