Hello all,
I have built a few cbgs and have had quite a bit of fun doing so. Next month I will be flying to visit family and this presents a problem as it would be difficult to carry any of my actual guitars or cbgs. I'm trying to design one that would be easier to travel with and I am hoping that you mad geniuses could offer some advice and or inspiration.

Grim,

I have traveled internationally and domestically for the last 14 years with both commercially-made and homemade CBGs. I also own a Traveler electric guitar. In all cases, I have never had trouble getting any of them into an overhead bin, even on short haul flights.

That said, the simplest way to make a CBG smaller is to use a bolt-on neck that fits into a locking hinge. Either that, or make a removable neck, and reassemble when you get where you're going.

My CBG,s normally have bolt on necks, so it would be simple to unbolt the neck and put it in a bag as carry on hand luggage. That's if the neck does meet size restrictions and is not too long.

Cheers Taff

I made a uke that would fit in my carry on bag.  With a bigger piece of luggage a short scale cbg could fit.

more   "out of the box" options .

ship  one ahead  .

build one there  .

assemble one there . just bring parts .

leave it there as a memory  and a reason to come back ;-)

build one there with parts  / momentos  from the area , and bring  back as a momento  for you  .

 etc etc  .

 or  .... there's this  ..
