I'll try posting this in the right place this time....
I have several metal pieces that I think will make a good dobro git but I'll have to build boxes for them. I'm going to use plywood and would like to use wood binding to hide the ply edges. Is it as simple as gluing a strip top/bottom, leaving an outside edge to glue binding to??? Bending the binding strip is no problem for me as I have a heat blanket that does it super easily.
Any other tips or methods of hiding ply edges??

I'm especially inorant of these things... but I do appreciate the straight shoot. So if I use JB weld or similar to stick it to the wood does that count as welding??? :)
Eh Gad!
I don't want to sound like "Mr. Correctness", but I think that Dobro is a brand name created by the Dopyera brothers when in 1928, they began the manufacturer of resonator guitars that used a spider bridge as opposed to the biscuit bridge then used by the National guitar company.
Dobro is a term commonly applied to a resonator guitar with a square neck and intended to be played laying across the lap and with a slide.
In the end, I guess it doesn't matter what name is used, but the real question becomes "What RabidSalad building?" Is it a guitar with a metal resonator cone or some other design?
It's amazing what guys come up with to get around a patent. The biscuit bridge was so simple, but nooooooooooooooooo, had to make it complicated.
@Tom T
Its a ring thingie with some big holes in it to which I'm gonna mount in some wood and lectric it up with a disc thingie...
No idea if it'll work but hey... cbg'n is an adventure not a job.
You have the right approach........."Just do it" and don't sweat the details.
If you get a chance to shoot a photo of the ring-thingie with the hole in it, please post it. With the disc thingie, just about anything will produce sound.
The answer to your question is yes BP,essentially binding is just gluing a strip of whatever you are using around the outside,it's a bit more involved than that, but there are heaps of tutorials on u tube etc
Thx Darryl I pretty much figured it was like that so I'll go wing it... as usual. I know there are tons of tutorials on the net but for me to hunt them down and wade thru a few is at this point to much for my eyes. I just need to be pointed in the right direction and I can usually stumble my way to the end point. Many Thx...
I've hidden a few plywood edges on my license plate reso's. Rustoleum Black was the tool of choice.
Or Krylon.
Well I have used the Black paint method of hiding edges on ply like I did on my grand-daughters git build but I'm at a lost at how to make ply look like binding.
I'm thinking I'm going to slice up some oat strips, bend'm around the git. I'll dark stain the ply so the ply and oak are contrasted. Hard edge as opposed to a soft ply edge. Thats the plan.... which is subject to change on the first cockup...
