To set things right I do have an older Mac. Might be seven or eight years old by now. So my browser may be way out of date. I use Safari. This could all be on my end of the net.

Parts that work.
I can post! Well that's obvious...
Upload pictures, video and files.

Parts that kinda work
Inbox. I receive messages but not on the dates they were sent. Sometimes I'll open one and then more will suddenly appear.
I can upload pictures but can't make albums.
Friends request. I do receive them. But again not when they're sent. Just got one today (22) that was sent on the eighth.

Things that don't work at all.
I can't send people messages.
Can't get into or even see chat.

Hoping to clear up things with this post.

First I'm not trying to avoid folks.
Second if there is a fix please let me know. Post it here or leave me a message.

Planning on getting a new Mac soon. So hopefully if it's all on my end the new box will cure it.

Thanks for everyone's patients!

Hey Cause - have you tried with a different web browser? And is Safari up-to-date? I'm afraid I know nothing about Macs but that is your most likely culprit. There was a period about 3 weeks ago when Firefox just refused to load the home page, yet everything else worked... just used Chrome for a bit until FF was updated.

I've looked around. unfortunately my mac is to old. I'm at 10.5 All the good stuff starts at 10.6. Ya, leave it to the younger folks to have more fun... : ) Be a wile before I can get a new computer. Was tossing the idea between a new one and a riding lawnmower. Mower is being delivered Sun. No more walking around my yard after being on my feet for 12+ hours a day! Looking forward to it.

Eight years..!  good going but maybe time you got a new 'un....as a long time windows user of 16 years

i'm doing all my stuff with laptops these days, and a mega-powered desk top and screen for recording.

I briefly went for Apple  recently, I got an Ipad Air, and after weeks struggling with the thing to behave  (many of my files and things on the Nation wouldn't work)  it died on me, no power, I took it back to Currys and they didn't want to know and told me to take it back to Apple...I eventually arrived at Apple in Westfields shopping centre London and had to wait an hour In a queue of people with faulty Ipads!  they replaced for a new one, all my new photos gone....I sold on ebay for much less than I paid and will never have another Apple in the house again..

Going back to your question, my advice is buy an HP laptop with windows 7 pro or 8 with windows explorer and  you'll be flying again!  (-:

oh...and don't buy anything you can't plug a USB stick into!

Just get firefox or chrome.

I assume its a power pc one to be stuck on lion ?

if you only do internet and mail etc its more than up to the task.

If you have a spare hard drive you could try an install of ubuntu on it, they still support ppc..

Most people no longer need a computer, a tablet is plenty unless you program or do video, audio editing or something heavy lifting like that..

If you are on a power PC mac, pre intel, you might have some problems doing a browser update. Try the browser 10 4 Fox. I have a ton of old Macs here. I can probably help you out. My email is dmcqueen@csolve.net.

I believe most problems wind up being related to Adobe Flash. I don't believe Apple products support Flash, but maybe that has changed.

I know if I log on here with my iPad, part of the chat window works, but I cannot private chat.

Thanks for the replies folks!
I have a 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. Was great when I got it. Found info. Got it in 08. At 12.44 PM on Dec. 04. : ) still have the sales receipt. Don't think I ever had a windows computer last this long. Usually start crashing. had three die of viruses. The last one was my last one. Actually the last windows computer I owned I took an axe to. But that's a different story.
Yes Mac supports Adobe Flash. had to look that up just to make sure. I may try reconfiguring my security to see if I'm blocking things on this end.

Thanks again everyone.

That's not too, bad. My wife is running a year 2000 model with and accellerator in it. She can pretty much do everything except high def. video. Macs last a long time. I have a vintage 1996 powerbook that will surf the net, all be it slowly.

You are running an old operating system at 10.5. I don't think you want to go above 10.6. My wife is on 10.4. Do all the system upgrades for 10.5 and try a couple of different browsers.
Then it will upgrade to snow leopard at least. It's only $30 I think. Do it
At Dan Sleep... Ipods, pads and phones do not support flash. Mac cpu's do. That being said, an old Mac, power pc processor, running Flash, will heat up a room.

Out of all the forums I belong to this is the only site I have these issues with. Did what I could on my end. Nothing different.

Updating to something slightly newer would only get me so far. Then I'd be out of date again in no time. I'll enjoy what I can from this site. Not like I can't watch vids or post.

OK I started this topic eight months ago. Procrastination is a man's right. Right? : ) Or ignoring an obvious problem and hoping it goes away. Or not asking for directions. Not reading directions. Not getting directions or help till something's bleeding, broken or currently on fire. Can I get an Amen!

I just got a notice from my IP, "We no longer support your internet browser". My browse is on the list. Just not the one old enough to have a clay tablet and rock carving tools. When your internet provider is giving you hints. When you can't add email accounts or use live chat help. You start to think,"wonder what else is going to stop working soon...." Yep. Time to invest in a new box.
