Keith Richards Plays in open G....

Started this discussion. Last reply by Jim Saraceno May 30. 6 Replies

Many of you probably already know this but Keith Richards often plays in open G. He removed the bass string and plays with five strings so if you have a 4 string CBG tuned to open G, you are one…Continue

Has anyone ever combined a Gitty amp kit with their EQ-7545R pre-amp?I just did a mock up of using both together and I love the way it sounds but I haven't figured out how to combine them into one…Continue

Problem with EQ-7545R Pre-amp...

Started this discussion. Last reply by Jim Saraceno May 12, 2017. 12 Replies

I am trying to make a pre-amp/equalizer for my guitars with piezo pickups. I ordered an EQ-7545R pre-amp, I did the Shane Speal hack of cutting the rod piezo off and soldering on a 1/4" jack. When I…Continue

"I love 4 string CGB tuned GDGB. You get the full open G experience on 4 strings. Also, many RL Burnside tunes work in that tuning. Plus, just don't touch the D and you've got some Seasick Steve going on."

Keith Richards Plays in open G....

Many of you probably already know this but Keith Richards often plays in open G. He removed the bass string and plays with five strings so if you have a 4 string CBG tuned to open G, you are one string away from playing a bunch of Stones songs. In the past couple of weeks I picked up Brown Sugar, Honkey Tonk Woman, and Start Me Up. Just google how to play those songs and you'll come up with videos pretty quickly.See More

Usually amp designs have safety factor in the output impedance they can handle. What you have to remember is if you connect a lower impedance speaker your amp will be drawing more current. The output stage (transistors /ic ) will be running hotter, and without sufficient heat sinking could cause the output stage to fail during long periods of use. Higher impedance usually means lower output power.

Jim -  I saw your comment re back angle on the neck.  My purpose is to give me enough height at the bridge to fit my adjustable bridge (I posted a little article on that awhile back - although others have come up with much more refined designs) and ease the tediousness of set up.  Its not necessary if you can use a lower bridge.
