Would be nice to see 2 strings being built and played for us that cant play very well these types of CBG are great.

Comment by Brad Boerger on April 10, 2011 at 2:57pm: finished up a 2 stringer a couple days ago. a very old havatampa box. went rustic on it. no pickup. neck is old pine from a torn down corncrib. whittled pegs for tuning. tuned DA (roughly). pretty sweet. will post pix soon.

Comment by Rick Hayes on March 11, 2011 at 3:37pm: Have mostly been working on building lap steels from found stuff, but like the beautiful simplicity of more minimal instruments. This actually snuck up on me one Christmas when I made my grown son a 4-string cookietin lap steel and made my grandson a 2-string werther's candy tin lapper. Tuned a 5th apart, I could play 1 string with a slide-like noter, and drone the other-or vice versa, and I could add the occasional mini-chord in there. I did give it to my grandson but I miss it and want to build another 2-string soon. Maybe broomstick and round tin, I am coming into some zither pins for tuners.

I have been using DA tuning just because I use DAd tuning on my 3 stringers but I will be trying a simple Dd tuning or Ee tuning on my next one. I see though that some people have been tuning to a 4th instead of a 5th which is interesting. Will experiment further and see what happens

And I know some tune them to the same note and others to different. I'd like to keep it versatile if that helps.

Also, I'm using a garden stake as the neck. I'm guessing it's pine. Pretty rigid, but with a little flex. Will steel be too high-tension or should I go with nylon?
