Elmer got some bling!

"It is indeed a lot of tension... but I would worry more about bracing the box somehow, honestly.  This mandolin crumpled its first box over its first year.  That was the box with the exaggerated s-holes.  The…"

Elmer got some bling!

"Thanks, Croc!  I have a couple of friends who are interested in mandolins but I have no router with which to put in a truss rod.  The tension of eight strings scares me."

Elmer got some bling!

"No truss rod, just a nice fat oak neck. Still nice and straight after a few years. I usually keep my mandolins tuned in open g though, so the tension is lower. But I think they'll handle standard tuning just fine."

Elmer got some bling!

Had the first mandolin I ever made with me when I met Ronnie McCoury. I presented his CrocBite mandolin to him, and also had him sign Poor Elmer for me.This thing doesn't feel so much like my old beater anymore!

CrocBite replied to Joe Madl's discussion Unusual little doubled 2 stringer... in the group 2 String CBG builds, playing, tuning
"that is a cool little thing indeed!  i love paired strings. you could always slot the nut and bridge a little so it could be played as a more normal four stringer too... if you felt so inclined.  "

Harry,

I'm glad to have you for a nation friend.  I admire your mando, your yellow banjo like build, amps and the rest.  Do keep an eye out for an ammo box.  My two ammo box builds sounded good and are tough and strong.  I have a recent video on one.
