"I have decided I hate master craftsmanship on CBGs. These perfect necks and such? Just make a real guitar. It reduces CBGs to novelties."

Matt Gallagher replied to Brent's discussion Adding on off switch to a prewired 4 string pickup kit from cbgitty in the group CBG wiring & electronics.
"Don't splice a wire. Wire the switch through the jack. Red to red, black to black. When the switch is open the circuit will bypass the rest of the set up, taking the easiest path, effectively shutting it off. Its called a kill switch. I just…"

"Ok. So this is what you're talking about, right? http://alexplorer.net/guitar/mods/killswitch-after.jpg So when the toggle is on the circuit bypasses the pot/pick up, right? I suppose that would mean that when the switch is on, it would…"

"Thats another good way to do it, Jim, but I'm wondering if I'm better served by the first. It's not a momentary switch for effect to occasionally break the circuit in play. It's literally and on/ off toggle. I want to break the…"

"I asked this in 101 but maybe it's more appropriate here (or likely somewhere else. There are a million groups). I'm doing a simple wiring job. Just a jack/volume/piezo, but for reasons of theme I'm adding an on/off switch. Where in…"

How did you learn about Cigar Box Nation?
I was looking for info on converting my electric 6-string into a two or three string, because I heard the Presidents of the United States of America played that way, and I could never wrap my head around a 6-string. I did find a page for that, but I also found pages for 3-string cigar box guitars. I remember reading about how to make cigar box guitars from an old Cub Scout manual I had, and I remember thinking "that's fricking impossible" but it always stayed in the back of my head. And now I make 'em!

Like I had commented earlier I am at the point where I am going to need some advice on a few last steps of the construction process. The biggy for me is locating the lipstick pick up, I need to determine the "sweet spot" or so I have been told. I figure that if there were a few guys getting together that have built CBG's this would be a perfect opportunity to get some hands on advice and see what everybody else is building. Please let me know if you plan on having a meet and greet anytime in the near future.

I live in the Southern suburbs and am about 3/4 of the way into the building of my CBG. I do not play guitar but really liked the idea of building one and I have gotten a little carried away. I would like to meet with your group and get some answers about a couple of items I need to finish up and than learn to play it.
