2011 Cigar Box Guitar Builders Challenge

We are pleased to announce the 2011 Cigar Box Guitar Builders Challenge!

The contest begins immediately. The deadline for submissions is December 31, 2011. A winner will be announced the first part of January, 2012.

Unlike previous contests, there is no theme this time. It is simply Cigar Box Guitars. Note that any stringed instrument will qualify as a "guitar", so you can make a uke, dulcimer, lap steel, bass, whatever stringed instrument suits your fancy.

We will have some great prizes too, more to follow...

Contest Rules:

Each submission shall be an instrument of the builder's own construction and overall design.

The instrument shall prominently and visibly feature a cigar box in the design.

Each builder will submit up to five pictures of their creation.

Entries must be submitted no later than December 31, 2011.

Builders will post the pictures of their instruments in the "Contest Submission Thread."

Builders should include descriptions of their work, including any technical details such as features, materials used, or any other information they feel would assist the judges in reviewing the submission.

A panel of judges will review the pictures and select a winner.

The decision of the judges is final.

*** 11/20/11: Please limit your entries to one submission per person. ***

I'm definitely in!

there's a good number of people building who don't (can't-i'm one ) play, so couldn't give a good demo. i have only one freind that's interested in what i'm doing and he tries them for me ...

I'm quite surprised that with this and other competitions in the past you only need to send pictures in and no sound clips or video of what it sounds like.

Isn't the sound the whole point?? I know some of the things people build on here are works of art, but shouldn't they sound good too??...maybe it's just me. Rant over, lol!

ah right, well someone else playing it would be fine..or just anything simple just to show what it sounds like. Anyway I think it's just going to be pics needed. It can all get too complicated otherwise : -/

I'm in!

I'm down to create something.

I'm in.

OK, I'm in. Always enjoy a challenge.

Sounds fun, I'm in.

Brian Hunt.

Count me in too!

Does it have to be a cigar box ?

Can it be another type of box like... wine, knife or home made box ?

The rules state:

"The instrument shall prominently and visibly feature a cigar box in the design."

So the box does not have to be a cigar box. You could use a wine box, but it is up to you as to how you will prominently "feature a cigar box" in their design.
