I use the 1 inch grommets from Gitty, and cut a 7/8 inch hole with a forstner bit, they press in real nice and tight.

I use these from Gitty, I was thinking they were 1 inch but they are actually 7/8. My mistake. You can see them on quite a few of my builds.

Do you fold back lip down just press them in.

Those 7/8 inch ones just press in, really easy.

Be careful using spade bits of 1 inch or so on fragile box lids, one slip could tear it apart, better to mark around the size of the hole, drill a small hole inside and use a fret saw with a thin multi-angled blade to cut out the hole, makes a neater job! (-:

Forstner bits are the best way to get a clean hole in wood.  Harbor Freight has a 1/4" to 1" set for about $10 and a set that goes to 2 1/8" for $40.

For best results drill until the pilot tip comes out the other side.  Then turn the work over and finish drilling from the back.  This prevents splintering on the backside.
