Little help here guys.

I have ignored my Youtube channel for ages, its full of rubbish from years back, so I want to upload all my recent videos - foolishly I put them up on here (the nation), but didnt back up my own copies.

Usual story then - computer died, lost files, only record is on here.

So - I now want to save my OWN videos from CBN and repost on Youtube.

I just cant see how to do it!

I guess Youtube have some block going on so folk cant steal other folks stuff and post it as there own, which is cool. Except I want to post my own stuff.

There appears to be no facility to embed stuff into Youtube - or am I being a bit thick?

Any guidance would be great

Cheers

Rooster,

One of the ways I've recorded YouTube vids direct from YouTube is to use Real Player 11. It has a facility for doing what you wanna do. I don't remember if you have to pay for this extra feature; it was free in Real Player 10.

www.real.com

There are other ways; if you Google "Record YouTube videos," you'll find a bunch of suspicious sites based in Russia that purport to show you how.

Oily

I hear ya Oily, but I want to do the opposite - I want to save my videos FROM the nation and upload them TO youtube, not FROM youtube.

I can see no way of saving a Nation video. Once I have it saved, its a simple upload on the 'tube, but I thought there may be a direct embed type method that I was missing.

Id be happy with either if anyone can help!

Ning is very restrictive in this area. Once you upload a video, there is no way that I know of where you can save or capture your video after you have uploaded it..

There are some video capture applications available for purchase on the web that will allow you to capture video and save it locally as a file. You could then upload it to YouTube.

it's pretty easy using the downloadhelper add-on with firefox. downloadhelper

a little icon appears in the tool bar, and when you go to the vid it starts spinning click on the little drop down menu and save

to pc. and its free!

Ben.

Most important question. Are you on a Mac or one of those other machines that some people use if they don't know what a proper computer is?

If you are on a proper computer (Mac) and using the Safari browser, go to the "Window" menu and choose "Activity". That will bring up a window showing all that is being downloaded to the browser. You may need to expand some of the list, but I'm sure you know what I mean. Find the file you want (normally the biggest - file sizes are given on the right hand side of the window) and double click while holding the "Alt" key. The file will download to your chosen folder.

I hope this is what you are looking for.

All the best.

John

I did not know about the downloadhelper addin for Firefox. I just tested it on my "improper"  computer and it works just fine.

Dan.

One day when you have been really good maybe you should treat yourself.

Yea, when I can save up the money, or take an advance on my retirement fund...LOL
Rooster,

Ah, I can see I was unclear. Yes, I've d vid FROM YouTube the way I described, but I've also done it that way FROM CBN. On a Windows machine. But I think c# merle's way using the Firefox addin is more elegant. And I'm on an iPad right now, running Safari as my browser, John, so would your technique work on this platform?

Hmmm.

Hi Oily.

Buy an iPad and send it to me and I will let you know.

All the best (and waiting impatiently for my iPad).

John

Hey Oily, I'd like to take it for a spin around the block as well...........
Ok, that's 2 iPads...

Y'all want fries with that?

CBGers...sheesh
