So I have an inkling for a double neck guitar. Cant say why, but the idea was there, so I guess I gotta build one now.

I was thinking of a diddly on top & a 4 string on the bottom, with the necks angled out from a common tail piece to give playing space for my left hand. I thought I might use a common single coil pickup too, the bottom 4 poles aligned with the guitar bit, and the top pole being for the bass string (so there'll be an approx 2 pole gap between the diddly and guitar strings). This will mean that all strings are always 'live', so Il be able to play and bass together if I learn to multi-task.

Question is, will it work??? As I see it, in essence just be a 5 string guitar, but Im thinking I may get loads of unwanted noise from the bass string resonating through the body? Im more than happy to experiment if theres a 50/50 its good, but I dont fancy cutting up a perfectly good box if the knowledge says I gotta put seperate pups and a switch in.

Any experience guys?

basically what you're building is a Lowebow, they have two pick ups one for the bass string and one for the guitar strings an they're all played at the same time, in order to essentially accompany yourself with bass.
I guess it is. But with only one pickup. Had a chat to Johnny about it the other day who reckons its trouble free so Il have a go when I get chance
