Hey guys...I know that a lot of us use the LM386 chips in our CBG amps.  Here's a link to a great little article on squeezing out as much performance as possible from the LM386.  It's geared toward Ham Radio operators, but the article does apply universally.

BTW...I've driven my PA speakers with the LM380 amp. You have to be careful that current consumption doesn't outstrip your power supply.

yes...have built the noisy cricket circuit, but the problem is the LM386. At 9 volts there's not a lot of power and clean head room. I think the LM380 (or the chips that begin with TDA) is a chip that will give you some wiggle room at 18volts. At 18v your probably pushing close to 2watts if I remember correctly.

Well, it sure ain't what some of you guys are building, but here's my first simple cigar box amp. Nice old Roberts box and Dan-o guts. I'll get a vid up soon. I think it sounds (and certainly looks) better than the plastic box.
