Serenader Radio/Phonograph Restoration Project

Posted on December 15, 2016 at 9:57am 6 Comments

Found an old mid to late 40's tube am radio & phonograph console at a local flea market this past spring. It was in sad shape. Decades of dust and furniture polish dulled the wood finish. The amp receiver chassis was filthy. The tubes/valves were covered in dust and old tape, the individual tube numbers written on them. One of the 4 wooden knobs had split in half.

After replacing most of the old paper in oil "oozing wax" capacitors and bad resistors and verifying everything else…

New Crap Tone Pickups by Farmer Ted's Guitars

Posted on April 2, 2015 at 11:15am 13 Comments

A guitar player's quest for the perfect guitar tone is one of many paths or directions. Players and builders will try endless combinations of "tone woods", neck and fretboard materials, body shapes, sizes, construction. We obsess over which pickups to use; where to place them; piezo or magnetic pickup; one, two, three, more?

Forums, chat rooms,…

Here comes the sun

Spring time is just around the corner and it couldn't come at a better time. This winter has brought our area a mountain of snow...nearly a storm per week since Christmas 2010. While my family spends lots of time outdoors sledding, walking, and more during the year's darkest days, I am quite ready for warmer, longer days.

Of course this means I will be busier than a one armed paper hanger with the crabs...but who can complain? At least I don't have crabs...haaa.

 Gardens…

Only 20 hours left on that auction :c I'll have to go find some trees to cut before I can afford it. I'll probably manage by the end of the week.

Yes the larger ones, they are pricey but for a hard core Keith's lover they are unique. If your in the city let me know I have a wine box here if you want it, I can sent a pic and dimensions if you want. The storm has changed to rain here  in the last 30 minutes, I better go shovel.

Talk to you later

Im working on another Dulcimer and I made a hollow or 3 piece fret board. I have a small speaker from a smoke detector and was going to use it as a pickup

1 do you think it will work ok as usually i have used piezo's from alarms but this is actually a small speaker with a Mylar like cone

2 were would be the best place to put it , inside the 3 piece fret board

Thanks

Mike
