I'm really hooked on cigar guitar box building. The graphics and construction of wooden and paper cigar boxes seems to have a pretty wide appeal. I love all of the cigar box amplifiers that I've seen, I'm not much of an electronics guy but seeing those cool little cigar box amps has inspired me to begin working on an extension speaker that would connect to the amp or any amp for that matter. This would be dare I say it, the world's first and only cigar box Leslie speaker. Think of a miniature version of the real deal. Since there is a small motor and moving parts involved I thought it would be best to make the core of the cabinet from 3/4 inch pine and trim it out with actual cigar box parts. Do you think that's cheating? Or did I forget the first rule of cigar box building (there are no rules)

Go for it!!!

Hi Thirstin.

Building and decorating your own boxes is cool! You can call 'em box guitars. Making them look like cigar boxes is up to you.  Why not document your process of building boxes, then submit the photos with a writeup on the CBN group called Home Made Resonator Boxes 101. In fact, the group might have some useful info for you. And don't be put off by the word "Resonator" in the group name. The group is primarily about building your on sound boxes, not Reso-CBGs (although I try to accommodate them as well). Good luck with your builds.

I have a small version in my organ...it is just a shaped piece of foam driven from a motor located over a speaker..simple.

you can always build a box and put cb labels and lids all over it for that natural look.

I thought homemade reso boxes was all about that and nothing else, I'm going there now!

It is simple, that's what I like most about it. I do have some pictures posted now in another discusson(Everything else?) I posted here by mistake.

Dude, if you made one that worked well I think that all sorts of players would want one.  People love a rotating speaker.
It works, I've made others but not this compact. It's based on the lower half of an actual Leslie speaker that contains a baffle that rotates over a speaker and throws the sound around as it spins. This little cbg Leslie sounds great! I'll post a video when I get my camera back (never lend yours out)

If you want to start making them and selling them on a regular basis let me know.  I'll set you up with space on my site.

I'd have to see the price, but just the idea of owning a Leslie-style CB amp makes me salivate...

That's what I'm saying.  There's definitely a market.  A lot of the nicer amps today have an emulation effect for this but we're kind of an analog crowd, you know?

By the way, I don't know if you know this or not but I don't take a % for stuff that I host on my site.  It's always a no charge to the seller.
