Is there a magical car part out there that may have a copper coil of wire in it that you could make a pick up out of?  I am mainly looking for items with copper coils in them......I don't care if it is from a car or not.  I just thought if I could find a cheap part here and there with copper in a wound form, just add magnets, and bam, you got a pickup.....

I havent had the chance to do any testing, but I happen to have a few things in my junk pile that I intend to evaluate for just that purpose. For example I have a 2 wire cam position sensor (Forget what it came out of) that has somewhere between 1500-2000 ohms resistance, it is basically a coil of fine wire wound on a magnetic pole piece. I was going to experiment with it as a pickup for a scrappy bit of a diddly bow project I am planning.

Will post results on that experiment down the road a bit.......

Relays

old chevy speakers, they have a coil that works good for a one stringer
Old door bell ringer coils look like they would work. 9 volt type battery chargers have been used here on CBN, there are videos about how they did it.
Any solenoid...door lock, trunk release, etc....but I dont know how it would sound...
This ringer has an ohm reading of 2.4k. I purchased this a a surplus store. It looked like it would be fun to make a pickup from.

How about the coil packs from say a modern Ford V8?
dynamo is full of wire
If you get an old rotary phone there is a coil in there that controls the ringing of the bells, it's quite a beefy unit. you drop a bolt down through the top with a magnet on the underside, figure out what is your pos/neg and whalla, you've got a pickup. I've seen it done, just haven't done it myself yet, got about five of them myself.

door lock solenoid?

trunk latch solenoid?

do the relays in the big "under the hood" fuse box have coils in them? or just solid state switching?
