I'd approach it like a stripped screw hole - I'd use a file edge and cut out a big oversized chunk, then cut a new piece of the original wood, fit it in, then re-slot back down.  It's a little more work, but the slot will be as durable as the others, and you probably won't notice the "repair".

Sometimes I put a tiny little piece of aluminum from a soda can, fold it around the string, and the tension of the string pulls it down into the slot, raising the string up a mite. Kind of old timey look.

I did that once and fixed it by putting a drop of super glue in the slot and sprinkling some baking soda on it. Then I recut it and it has worked well since.

Well, that's never happened to me(yea, right) but if it were to happen(cough,cough) I would use Mike's technique, of course I don't have any experience(total BS) with this method(only on about every nut). Also I have placed a shim under the nut and then brought the others down. Er, I mean I have heard of putting a shim and recutting.

My first CBG was bought from a supposedly well-renowned maker, but the nut was giving me some buzzing too.  I just took some paper, folded it a few times and used it as a shim under the nut.  It was too much, so I cut some of the paper out, re-folded it and it worked decent.  Easy fix.

Thanks everybody, especially Mike.  I tried the super glue and baking soda, and it's much improved.  I may try another layer to remove the minimal buzz that's left.

I use bone nuts almost exclusively, and they can be adjusted with bone dust and superglue.  The "gel" superglue seems to work well.

Yep, bone dust or baking soda and super glue is what I've done. It's not as good as an unadulterated bone nut though... it can creak sometimes.

I have also made the string groove wider and inlayed a bone insert then recut the groove. But on a plastic nut I like the super glue and soda fix. Also I have used a little slive of paper super glued in, at times this has worked best..

How bout just turning the nut over and cutting new string grooves?

I did this once before.  I put masking tape on both sides of the nut (think like a concrete form) and then filled the slot with two part epoxy.  Sets up nice and hard.  Came back to it an hour later and recut the slot.  Worked nice and you couldn't tell it had been done looking closely at it.
