So, I just recorded a really lofi CD of early American songs and one original. I have a skiffle band using only a 2 string cbg and a one string bass and a washboard. All acoustic played into my audacity program. I use the mike in my computer and only a very few plug ins. It is a really sparce set up, but it works for me. I am just wondering what the rest of you use and do to make your wonderful music!! I would also appreciate any tips you all might have. I like to record but only know what my ears tell me. No real training in this. Anyway, thanks in advance for any tips you might have. the Link is here to hear my latest recording

A better microphone would help. computer mikes are really bad. Here is an idea for a really cheap " upgrade" ( it may not be but it works) .

Find a playstation SingStar microphone set. it usually comes with 2 microphones and a USB interface. The USB interface works on PC and Mac and probably Linux.. Here is a video link to someone setting it up. The mics are not too bad and you can always use a better mic later on. Also wit two mics you can record in stereo...lol

thanks, that is a cool idea!!

Yea, I agree with an external usb mic! You really don’t have to spend a ton of money to get results, there’s always some kind of sale going on somewhere online? They all have built-in digital interface, so they’re plug n play, easy peasy? Check this out, free shipping too?https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/ProCastMIO--miktek-procast-...
