To get that old deep south southern blues sound what strings would you reccommend on the 3 string CBG?

What kind of tuning? Open G or A or E or D? There’s a link to the cigarboxguitar.com archives down at the bottom right of the home page about tunings and strings, there’s plenty of info there. Rich that sound you are looking for has to do with the way you play the guitar, but open G or D will get you into the delta blues?

Hi Brian open G is the most common talked about

Rich, here’s how we post our comments

Cheers got it now

A common   set up . is # 3  # 4  and # 5  out of a .9s  or .10s  pack .

If this is an electric  cbg with a mag pickup . it is best to use  "electric " strings .

Acoustic or piezo powered , you may like acoustic strings better. (but electric strings will still work .) you can eve use nylon .

Also - acoustic strings "will" work with a mag pickup . but it may sound  " muddy".

Electric are steel  core   and nickle usually   ,, Acoustic are bronze wound . etc ..  and a  magnet  cant read them as clear.

hope that helps

Thanks mate

Another thing about using Nylon strings is that you get way better volume & audio response using a direct contact pickup like a rod piezo bridge combo?

There are Nickle core Bronze acoustic strings now for better response to pickups.

A lot of the old Blues guys used heavier gauge strings like the low wound strings E-A-D and tuned them to a open D - D-A-D. If that doesn't do it for you get some 11 or 12 gauge strings.

Thanks Paul. I will give it a go
