Our cbg were born for the blues .... we see videos of blues ..... but, and the other styles? Funky, rock, pop ..... there's nothing on them?

Janis, I think you're in a group of folks here who are very open to many different tastes and styles. The main thing most of us seem to look for is creativity in whatever form and expressing one's self on homemade instruments and you certainly fit right in with that - blues or not!

Oh, and thanks for your kind words!
If nobody told you today, you're a really good guy Jim!
Maybe a ukulele as a somewhat similar instrument is not properly thought for Thrash Metal but listen to

Muahahahahahahaha! Yessss!
turtlehead mentioned Cpt. Nemoff for performances far away from blues: here two links to him playing renaissance and baroque music:

P.S. I was shopping in town, listened to an elder busker, maybe a Romanian gipsy, playing the Ciaccona of Bach's Partita in D minor for violin solo on an accordion, so what...

As I'm reading and listening to all these wonderful posts I'm grinning from ear to ear. I'm not alone! I'm not the only rebellious spirit fighting against the stronghold of blues only Cigar box guitar!

Lol Cause, I'm not really fighting against any kind of blues stronghold. I love the blues but I don't think it's the music I'm meant to play. I think we all need to play the music that moves us and has some kind of deep personal meaning. When I discovered traditional Appalachian tunes, which came across with early settlers and got blended with African influences, I felt a connection. I feel genuine when I play this music but usually feel like I'm  faking my way through blues songs. For each one of us it's going to be a different style or blending of styles that we connect with. I'm grinning too because this discussion has hopefully made a few other folks feel like it's o.k. to play it the way you feel it.

Oops, every once in a wile I forget to put a " : ) " at the end of a post. Sorry about that. I like the blues as well. But, like you, blues music doesn't speak well through me.

I sensed the implied  ": )"
