Get some of those faux tortoiseshell guitar pics, some tin foil, an office hole-punch and clear drying glue. Paste the shiny side of the foil to the back of the picks. When dry use the hole punch to cut circles of plastic from the picks and inlay to the neck. The foil really makes the markers "pop" (brightens and shows off the pattern of the plastic).

I recently heard of someone who wanted a banjo to play while camping, and got the maker to inlay coloured glass beads if I remember rightly, so that the markers glinted in the fire-light.

That's mine, now 'fess up builders!

I'm still working on mine...... I like your suggestion with the picks (and have seen it before....... I'm working on a small copper tubing with some filler.... will keep you posted

Copper wire makes great side markers, just drill a hole and tap them in. The copper pipe idea sounds interesting too.

i wood burn mine markers and fret lines.just on the edge.  i like the old tymey look.  the less is more line of thought

I've seen copper tubing with a wooded dowel inside, I've seen shell casings and I've used different colored plastic coat hangers.

Thinking along your like Paul...... copper tubing.... filled with solder (plumbers stuff or colored glue sticks..... if you don't use the copper tubing the solder or glue just mixes with t he grain of the wood not giving a complete circle....

Plastic knitting needles are easy, just drill a hole, hammer in, cut off and sand, many different sizes and colours

great idea.... do they

make them glow in the dark...... lol

just buy a glow in the dark star set from one of the cheap dollar stores... and use the hole punch method...

i have seen a guitar maker use aluminium tubing with ebony in the middle as fret markers.

i am going to pinch Darly idea of the knitting needles as they are plentiful in various sizes in the lifeline. st vinnies stores..

sorry Darryl fat finger syndrome....

Thumbtacks are easy. If you go to a bead shop there will be some interesting options. Temporary tattoos. I like the foil behind pick idea. I have not used it on fret markers but have use it with glass beads for decoration, works well.

I have used plastic rods, wood, wood burned, tacks, home made clay dots, I get best results with wood. I am going to use clay dots in the uke I am currently working on. still so many great ideas to try.
