What have you all come up with for fret dots, Aside from Stew Mac

Have found some really nice Indian Rosewood knitting needles of various precise diameters but about twenty dollars a pair and think there must be something else out there.

I usually wood burn them on or use a hole punch and punch them out of plastic giar pics. 1/4" forsner bit and drill press and there you go. Saw that done here. ;-)

I've used BBQ skewers as fret markers before.  I soaked them in my homemade "mojo juice" stain overnight to give them a dark ring around the edge.

I had them lying around in a kitchen drawer. It was cheap and easy.  They came out pretty good too.  So I will definitely be using them again.

Yes of course you are right.

Just not looking well.

So no butter.

wayfinder is right.  there are tons of things, ive used sea shells to pebbles to those fake jewels they sell at the craft stores. also 45 brass  shotgun shell brass ends . type writer keys are cool . I found a bunch at an antique store and used those . brass nails. copper nails.  coins. pennys.  foreign currency.  ive taken a regular phillips screw heated the tip on the stove and burned the cross into the wood with the head of the screw . that looks cool.   just look around.   it actually gets kinda fun . good luck post up some ideas of what youve come up with .

groucho love that bbq skewer with dark stain ring outta site man !

I have used abalone inlays (love that ebay!), wood dowels, sharpies, wood burning, and recently Airsoft bb's: Drill a small hole, hammer them in and sand them flush...

A little. The hardest part is sawing them off flat, and getting them to sand down cleanly... :-)

Chopsticks. You can do a bunch of fretboards with just one package. (Free with egg foo yung)

Bone rod split in half...the way I installed them they can be seen from the top and side

Ingenious - inspiring - creative

What kind of wood is that fretboard made of? Bocote?

Duh, evidently still not getting the Reply steps right.

Thought I replied but don`t see it on site. The fret board is a StewMac Rosewood that`s a bit more open grain than I expected. Will still be fine. I managed to get birch dots in the right places and dressed smooth. After reading muuch and watching You tube vids till my eyes fell out, I`ve decided to glue up and then fret. The fret board seems to have a bit of a dip and I want to deal with wood rather than frets to level. Still , the finish. Iv`e read everything from Pam to Lemon oil to some mystery fluid no longer on the market. There are lovers and haters on all sides.

What do you use?
